A church with a Gothic predecessor, a municipal museum open year-round by appointment, and a Calvary offering views of the High Tatras give Spišská Teplica a variety of cultural points of interest. The area also includes protected fen habitats. This makes it possible to get to know the town through tangible evidence of its church and local history, as well as a distinctive natural feature.

Church and Preserved Tabernacle

The Roman Catholic Church of the Most Holy Trinity was built in 1875 on the site of a 14th-century Gothic church. The site thus brings together a 19th-century building and its medieval predecessor. A historic stone tabernacle has also been preserved inside the church. The building date, predecessor and tabernacle offer different points of reference for understanding the town’s religious heritage.

Municipal Museum and Cistercian Heritage

The municipal museum complements the church history with the history of Spišská Teplica and its Cistercian heritage. Its permanent exhibition is dedicated to these subjects. The museum is open year-round to visitors who have made an appointment; arrange your visit before you arrive. It also provides space for creative workshops, lectures, exhibitions, discussion groups and seminars. A permanent exhibition is thus accompanied by a variety of educational and discussion formats.

Calvary with Views of the High Tatras

The Cistercian-style Calvary has 14 stations, including a chapel. From higher up, there are views of Spišská Teplica, the surrounding area and the peaks of the High Tatras. It is accessible to pedestrians, cyclists and visitors arriving by car. The stations and the views provide a different emphasis from the permanent exhibition in the municipal museum: here, a sacred site is set against views of the surrounding landscape.

Protected Fen Habitats

The Spišskoteplické slatiny area is part of the Natura 2000 network, covers approximately 24 hectares and is located at three separate sites within Spišská Teplica. The designated area is subject to the fourth level of protection. Among its key protected habitats is a habitat of European importance consisting of base-rich fens. This natural feature complements the church and local history with information about protection status, geographic distribution and a specific habitat type.

Circular Route and Directions

A circular route from Poprad through Lopušná dolina, Spišská Teplica and Svit, and back to Poprad passes through Spišská Teplica. Along the way, it crosses the town as far as the agricultural cooperative; the climb begins after that. There are several places to get refreshments along the circular route, as well as benches and informative educational signs. As route conditions may change, check the route locally before setting out.

When choosing a hotel in Spišská Teplica, the different points of interest can help guide your choice: the church building and tabernacle represent sacred history, the museum covers local history and Cistercian heritage, and the Calvary offers stations and views. The Spišskoteplické slatiny add protected fen habitats. Choose your search based on which of these aspects of the town matters most to you during your stay.
