Visitors considering Tesárske Mlyňany as a destination will find a range of highlights: plant diversity and walking trails, insights into local history, and churches and chapels. The Mlyňany Arboretum puts nature in the spotlight, while the municipal museum and religious buildings offer further perspectives on the town. When planning your trip, it helps to first decide which of these themes you want to shape your stay.
Mlyňany Arboretum: Plant Diversity and Walking Route
The Mlyňany Arboretum spans the municipal areas of Tesárske Mlyňany and Vieska nad Žitavou and covers 67 hectares. More than 2,300 plant species from various parts of the world grow there, particularly from East Asia, Korea, and North America. The main walking route through the arboretum is 4.5 kilometres long. The two figures provide different points of reference: the area describes the extent of the arboretum, while the route length indicates a specific walk. Those interested in plants can therefore get a sense both of the size of the grounds and of a practical distance for planning their route.
Cycling Route and Insights into Local History
There is also a specific local connection for cycling visitors: the signposted Požitavská cycling route passes through Tesárske Mlyňany. It offers a distinct starting point for planning a cycling trip. Those planning their visit around a walk through the arboretum can use the 4.5-kilometre main route as a different distance reference.
The Tesárske Mlyňany Municipal Museum offers insights into the area’s past, former ways of life, and local traditions through exhibits and photographs. It was officially opened on 8 September 2012. This brings the town’s history into focus alongside nature and cycling. The exhibits and photographs give the museum visit a tangible connection to everyday life and traditions, rather than presenting local history solely through buildings.
Churches, Chapels, and Pilgrimage
The Church of the Annunciation (Zvestovania Pána) in Tesárske Mlyňany is a single-nave Baroque church. It was built from 1760 to 1763 in place of an older sacred building, probably Romanesque, and was redesigned in the Classicist style in 1804. Its Late Baroque high altar dates from 1760 to 1770. The parish church of Tesárske Mlyňany also has Baroque side altars from the 18th century, which come from Svätý Beňadik, now Hronský Beňadík. A Calvary ensemble also stands on the grounds of the parish church.
Tesárske Mlyňany is associated with a pilgrimage and devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus has an open front because it is used for pilgrimages. It was built in 1994 to mark the 85th anniversary of the pilgrimages to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Tesáre. Its open design and use for pilgrimages are therefore integral to its described function. There is also a Late Classicist cemetery chapel, built in 1841, in the Mlyňany district.
