A modern historical installation covering approximately 100 m² is dedicated to the Migazzi noble family. The Migazzi Manor House also tells the story of the family: the Baroque-Classical building was renovated in 1789 and added to the list of national cultural monuments of the Slovak Republic on October 2, 1963. The exhibition on the Migazzi family features video projections, audio guides, and a projection wall. Historical content is thus presented alongside a variety of ways to bring it to visitors. A preserved stone fountain from the manor house can be displayed without major alterations.
Landscape and Location
Zlaté Moravce lies at the confluence of the Žitava and the Hostiansky potok, also known as Zlatnianka. The city is also situated where the Tribeč Mountains, Pohronský Inovec, and the Podunajská nížina lowland meet. Watercourses and the transition between mountainous and lowland areas give the location a clear geographical setting. If you are interested in the landscape, these three distinct regions are a useful way to understand the geographical setting of Zlaté Moravce.
Regional History and Literature
The local history museum in Zlaté Moravce focuses primarily on the upper Požitavie region. Its focus is therefore on regional history, not just on individual buildings in the city. An exhibition titled “The Commemoration of Janko Kráľ” provides a brief overview of his life, poetry, and participation in the revolutionary years of 1848–1849. Personal biography, literature, and a period of upheaval offer three perspectives on his work.
Historic sites add further points of interest. After being rebuilt from the ground up, the Church of St. Michael the Archangel was consecrated on September 29, 1785. The Zlatomoravecká Kalvária, also called Trojica, stands on the site of a 13th-century Romanesque church. The Kalvária is listed among the national cultural monuments of the Slovak Republic declared in 2018. Another trace of the past leads to Andrej Hlinka Square: the Zlatomoravecká Golgota, a sandstone crucifixion group dating from 1848, is located there.
Culture at the Migazzi Manor House and the Cinema
The city cultural center at the Migazzi Manor House offers theater performances, concerts, lectures, exhibitions, courses, and other events throughout the year. Its broad program offers different ways to experience culture in Zlaté Moravce. Individual programs may change, so check in advance which dates fall during your travel period.
The Tekov Cinema is also part of the city's cultural history: it has a long tradition of film screenings and shows film premieres. If you are planning a cinema visit, check the schedule for your dates.
City Park and Sports Facility
The surviving part of the former manor park is now used as a city park. It offers another perspective on the historic heritage: part of the former parkland has been put to modern urban use. In addition to the cultural sites, there is a sports facility with five tennis courts and a 400-meter cinder track. If you would like to include the facility in your plans, check its availability for your dates.
