A small chapel is part of the observation tower at Kamenec; from the 12-metre-high tower, panoramic views stretch across Obyce and the surrounding area. Cycling connections, a protected natural area and historic sites are other highlights. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can therefore first decide whether cycling, nature or local history should shape your stay.

Kamenec Viewpoint

The observation tower grounds include a shelter with wooden seating, a fire pit for grilling and an information board. The small chapel is part of the tower. This brings the viewpoint and other features of the grounds together in one place: the tower offers views across Obyce, while the shelter and seating show another side of the site. Kamenec is therefore a specific point of reference for your plans if you want to focus on views and a sense of place.

The Včelár Natural Area

The Natura 2000 site of European importance SKUEV0868 Včelár lies within the cadastral area of Obyce. The Včelár National Nature Reserve was designated in 1983 and is subject to the fifth level of protection. It is characterised by thermophilous oak forests and xerothermic vegetation on andesite; the protected area covers land in the cadastral areas of Obyce and Jedľové Kostoľany. Its protected status and vegetation give the nature theme its own character alongside the panoramic views from Kamenec.

Plan Your Cycling and Arrival

Two details are relevant when planning a cycling route: the red Požitavská long-distance cycle route passes through Obyce, while a green cycle route starts at the Obyce–Modoš junction. The first describes a route through the village; the second gives a specific starting point. This distinction may matter when choosing a route, depending on where you want to begin your ride.

Arriva Nitra provides regular suburban bus services to Obyce. The bus stops in the built-up area are equipped with new shelters and benches. If you plan to take the bus for your journey or on a particular travel day, check the timetable for that day. When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to compare the specific address with your arrival plans and the main focus of your stay.

Local History and Cultural Sites

The Žliabok grounds include an amphitheatre and associated facilities; cultural and social events are held there every year. The Žliabok spring is also located on the grounds. If a particular event is important to your trip, check the dates during your stay.

The Church of Christ the King was built in 1942. At the entrance are finely crafted statues of Saint John the Evangelist and Saint John the Apostle, dating from the 18th century. The Chapel of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary is in the northeastern part of Obyce. It was originally a Classicist chapel dating from around the 19th century and was remodelled in 1913.

The Michaeli–Viktória brown-coal mine lies in the cadastral areas of Obyce and Jedľové Kostoľany. Local history describes it as Slovakia’s second brown-coal mine, after the mines of Handlová. Drieňová Spring, in turn, connects local history with a local tradition: the municipality dates the discovery and use of the spring to 1884. The well-maintained grounds include a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes with a grotto, as well as commemorative plaques about the spring and the statue of Mary. A local tradition says that during T. G. Masaryk’s summer stays in Topoľčianky, water from the spring was carried there.
