Ladice combines its setting on the Drevenica with distinctive traces of local history and a described hiking route. The village stretches in a semicircle along both banks of the stream and lies at the southeastern foot of the Tribeč, where it meets the Žitava Hills. Ladice is listed at an elevation of 160 to 400 metres. The stream, elevation and surrounding landscape provide a clear framework for finding your way around; at the same time, the cultural landmarks tell of different chapters in the village’s history.

Church, Museum and Architectural History

The Roman Catholic Church of All Saints was rebuilt in the Baroque style, renovated around 1790, and repaired and repainted again in the early 20th century. Inside the church, a Gothic bell dated 1315 is displayed on a pedestal. The building’s history and the bell mark different periods: the date belongs to the bell, while the recorded work on the church tells of the building’s later development.

There are also landmarks with distinctive architectural features outside the church. The former Catholic school building now serves as a museum housing numerous historical exhibits. Folk House No. 100 dates from the 19th century: it is made of unfired bricks, plastered and whitewashed, and has a three-part floor plan. This detailed description makes the house an example of local residential architecture, while the museum brings together historical exhibits in a former school building.

The cemetery has seven carved wooden gravestones from the 19th century, as well as several cast-iron gravestones. On a vineyard hill on the Tekov side of Ladice stands a stone statue of Saint Urban dating from 1834. It stands on a tall column that tapers towards the top. The cemetery monuments and statue add different forms of local remembrance to the architectural history.

Folklore and Historical Remembrance

The Hajnalkert folklore ensemble combines folk songs and customs with the ladder dance typical of Ladice. Its development began in 1969 as a women’s choir; men joined a year later, and it became a folklore ensemble dedicated to preserving folk traditions. Hajnalkert takes part each year in numerous events in Slovakia, Hungary and Austria; specific participation plans may change.

At the lower end of Ladice stands the stone remnant of a square pillar, probably a monument. According to local tradition, it dates from the period of Turkish rule and commemorates a canon of Nitra and his retinue. A regional research report published in 2019 and attributed to the municipality of Ladice links the Turkish Monument to an attack by an Ottoman force on the retinue of a canon of the Nitra Chapter. According to the report, this happened shortly after the Battle of Veľké Vozokany in 1652, in the immediate vicinity of Ladice.
