Marcelová brings together a Baroque church, a Reformed church with a multi-stage building history, a historic archery club and two nature reserves. These varied themes offer several ways to plan your trip: you can focus your stay on culture, club activities or protected areas. When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to first decide on your main interest and how much time you have. This makes it possible to give each theme realistic consideration.

Churches with Different Building Histories

The Baroque Roman Catholic Church of St John the Baptist dates from 1731. The Reformed church has a different history: it was built in 1803 as a Neoclassical Toleration church without a tower, had a tower added in 1836 and was restored in 1906.

The dates trace two different building histories. For St John the Baptist, a single construction year is the main point; for the Reformed church, its original form, later extension and restoration can be distinguished. The tower was added 33 years after the church was built, and restoration took place 70 years after the tower was added. The two churches therefore offer different perspectives on Marcelová’s religious architecture.

The local cultural landscape also includes the chapel above the “miraculous spring” in the former park of the Pálffy family. It adds a historical connection to the spring and park to the churches’ building history.

Local cultural celebrations are also held in Marcelová. Their individual programmes may vary; if you would like to make a celebration the occasion for your trip, check the dates in advance.

Archery as a Cultural Focus

The historic archery club Fekete Sólyom, also known as Čierny Sokol, has been based in Marcelová since 2006. Fekete Sólyom presents the culture and martial traditions of ancient Hungarian and Avar archers through historical clothing and equipment. At historical festivals at home and abroad, the club performs dynamic archery demonstrations. Individual dates may vary. If you would like a demonstration to be part of your plans or wish to take part, check performance dates and participation options directly with the club.

Two Protected Areas of Different Sizes

The two protected areas differ considerably in size: Marcelovské Piesky covers 4.5 hectares and lies in the cadastral area of Krátke Kesy; Pohrebište covers 69.3 hectares and lies in the cadastral area of Marcelová. At 69.3 hectares, Pohrebište is more than fifteen times the size of Marcelovské Piesky. Their area and cadastral locations help distinguish the two names when planning your trip.

Planning Dates and Travel

For planning your time, it is worth making a distinction: churches and protected areas are permanent, location-based attractions, whereas specific archery demonstrations and cultural celebration programmes should be planned around current dates. This helps you decide whether to choose Marcelová primarily for its architectural history and natural areas or to time your stay around an event.

Marcelová lies on the road between Komárno and Štúrovo. Roads also lead to Marcelová from Chotín, Šrobárová and Virt. For orientation, you can consider the connection between the two places mentioned and the three access routes separately.
