Oravice offers several distinct highlights for a stay: hiking trails through the Juráňová Valley, a peatland area with a wooden walkway, thermal waters and seasonal sports activities. The hiking trails differ in specific ways: the circular trail in the Juráňová Valley takes about three hours on foot, while the Anton Kocyan Nature Trail has two routes of different lengths.
Hiking trails with different profiles
The Juráňová dolina Nature Trail starts at a crossroads in Oravice, runs through the Ticha Valley and returns through the Bobrovecká Valley. The circular trail is about 8 kilometres long and takes about three hours on foot. Walking time depends on conditions and breaks; the elevation gain is 230 metres. The route through the Juráňová Valley is also suitable for families with children. Seasonal closures apply to the nature trail, so check current access before setting out.
The Anton Kocyan Nature Trail offers two routes: Route A is 14.6 kilometres long and has 22 stops, while Route B is 3.2 kilometres long and has nine stops. Route A starts in Oravice and follows a paved forest road to the Ticha Valley. Route B runs across the Peciská Peat Bog, where there is an observation tower. The two options therefore differ both in length and route.
The Relaxation Trail is connected to car parks at both ends. As current trail conditions are important when planning a visit, it is advisable to check them before setting out.
Gorge, peatland and protected nature
The gorge of the Juráňová Valley near Oravice features steep rock walls, potholes, waterfalls and cascades. The protected Juráňová dolina area lies south of the settlement of Oravice and is part of Tatranský národný park National Park. The Peciská Peat Bog is another distinctive landscape: a raised wooden walkway crosses the peatland and its fen and wet-meadow habitats.
The Peciská Peat Bog also has a long history. Sediment began accumulating there in the Oravice area about 6,000 years ago. The walkway and the different peatland habitats offer a different kind of nature experience from the rock walls and waterfalls of the Juráňová Valley.
Thermal waters and seasonal sports
The Meander Thermal & Ski Resort in Oravice has a bike park with four trails totalling more than 10 kilometres. Trail layouts and availability may change seasonally. In summer, Skipark Meander Oravice operates a cable car for pedestrians and cyclists. In winter, the ski park has more than 12 kilometres of ski runs and a separate children's ski area with a SunKID conveyor-belt lift. Run availability and facilities may change; check conditions for your travel dates.
Meanderpark Oravice has a thermal water park that is open all year round. All pools use 100 percent geothermal water; the thermal water in the pools has a high iron content. If the water park is part of your plans, check current operating conditions before your visit.
A glimpse into local history
A plaque commemorating Anton Kocyan is attached to the former forestry administration building. A forester's lodge originally stood here, where Kocyan worked; access to the building may vary. The chapel in Oravice also has a long history: it was built between 1817 and 1820 and restored in 1864. Both places add a local historical dimension to hikes and nature experiences.
