The nature reserve, biography and historic crafts give Mošovce several distinct themes for a stay. The Mošovské aleje protected area includes not only avenues but also the local park and woodland in the surrounding area. Two museums are dedicated to Ján Kollár and the town’s historic crafts. The manor house and mausoleum add architectural and historical highlights, while the outdoor swimming pool by the Mošovský potok offers a seasonal leisure activity.

Mošovské aleje: a nature reserve with several components

Mošovské aleje has been designated a protected natural landmark since 1969; its protected status was revised in 1995. The protected area includes the local park, several avenues along the roads and some woodland in the surrounding area of Mošovce. It covers 273 hectares. The name therefore refers not just to a single avenue, but to an area with various landscape features. Both this variety and the history of its protected status are important for understanding the area’s natural features: the dates provide a historical timeframe, while the area figure indicates its size.

Ján Kollár and his life

The Múzeum Jána Kollára is located on the original site of Ján Kollár’s birthplace. The exhibition covers his life from his birth and studies to his work as a pastor in Lobeda, Germany. It begins in the original granary. In this way, its connection to the place is paired with a biographical account that extends beyond his birth and studies to his later work. This offers a distinct cultural focus for choosing what to explore in Mošovce: here, the story of one person takes centre stage.

Crafts and architecture

The Múzeum mošovských remesiel is housed in the Révay family mausoleum, built in 1861. It presents the historic crafts of Mošovce through tools and finished products. The combination of tools and products makes the display tangible: it covers both the implements used and the finished results. The Révay Rococo-Classical manor house in Mošovce was built in the second half of the 18th century. This makes it possible to compare two construction periods: the second half of the 18th century for the manor house and 1861 for the mausoleum. The buildings also represent different types of structures, while the mausoleum now houses the craft museum.

Outdoor swimming pool and nature trail

An outdoor swimming pool by the Mošovský potok uses thermal springs. Before your trip, check whether the pool will be open during your travel dates; its seasonal operation should be taken into account when planning. A nature trail was established in June 2010. At the time, the route led through the village to the outdoor swimming pool, Báronov hrob and the Rybníky ponds, with the Jack farm and horses, then on to Čerňákovo, through the park and to the manor house. As a circular route, it ended in the square in front of the municipal office. The trail could be completed on foot or by bicycle. If you plan to follow this route today, check its current availability in advance.
