A partially preserved Gothic church building, a walk to a viewpoint and war memorials, and stone-built granaries offer several distinct reasons to visit Hrboltová. There is also a chapel in Hruštie, whose history of relocation and view of the church in Černová provide a separate focus. For your planning, you can distinguish between architectural history, local history and destinations in the forest park.

Gothic architectural history at the church

At the Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, part of the Gothic building originally constructed in the 13th century survives as a side chapel; the church was rebuilt in the 19th century. The original ribbed vault with a central keystone is preserved in the sanctuary. In a ribbed vault, the ribs meet in the middle at the keystone. This detail illustrates the construction method, while the side chapel represents the only partially preserved older church building. The two details complement each other: they describe both the extent of the preserved Gothic structure and a specific feature in the sanctuary.

A walk and views in the forest park

Hrboltová Forest Park offers an easy walk to war memorials and a viewpoint. The viewpoint is in the upper part of the park and is easy to reach; the memorials to those who fell in the First and Second World Wars are in the central area. This distinguishes the two destinations within the park by location: the viewpoint is above, while the memorials are in the centre. If you would like to focus on one during your walk, you can use this distinction as a guide rather than treating both destinations as similar stops.

Another perspective is offered by the cycling route “Z Ružomberka k močiaru v Stankovanoch”. It passes through Nová Hrboltová to Hrboltová and by the forest park, where there is a memorial to the world wars. While a walk focuses on destinations within the park itself, on this cycling route the forest park is a section along the way. The route also includes a dated construction note for the Hrboltová–Švošov section; check the current route before setting out.

The chapel in Hruštie and its relocation

The Chapel of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary is in Hruštie, on the road between Nová Hrboltová and Hrboltová. It was moved from its former location beside the old road in Nová Hrboltová to its present site. This relocation is a distinctive part of its history: the chapel’s story includes both its former location by the old road and its current site. From the chapel, there is a view of the church in Černová. The history of its location and a specifically named viewpoint are presented side by side here.

Stone granaries and the history of the district

The stone-built granaries are among Hrboltová’s oldest structures; an exhibition on the history of the district is housed in them. This offers a different focus from the church and chapel: here, historic granaries and the history of the district are presented together.
