Ludrová brings together cultural history rooted in craftsmanship and distinctive outdoor destinations: at the Paper Museum, visitors can try out the papermaking process interactively, while the gorge, mountain and nature reserve set the scene for hiking. Churches, a mineral spring and archaeological traces complete the picture of the area. You can shape your stay around culture or plan time for hiking.
Craftsmanship, Churches and History
The municipality of Ludrová established and operates the Museum of Hand Papermaking, carrying on the papermaking tradition of the lower Liptov region. Visitors can interactively try out the entire process of making paper by hand. The museum is housed in a wooden building and is located near the Medokýš mineral spring.
The church in Kút belongs to the Liptov Museum and is open to the public. Its opening arrangements may vary, so check them before your visit. The church on Stráňa Hill can be reached by a covered staircase. The two churches therefore offer different visiting arrangements: public access with variable opening arrangements in Kút, and access via the staircase on Stráňa.
The history of Pancová Hill also stretches far back: the remains of a significant hillfort are located there, with origins dating back to the Bronze Age. Ludrová’s cultural offerings thus range from interactive crafts and churches to archaeological traces.
Medokýš and the Landscape
The Medokýš mineral spring is located in the Močilá area on the edge of Ludrová, 50 metres from the built-up area. The spring can be reached via an asphalt road leading to the Museum of Hand Papermaking. The museum is also near the spring. Both its precise location on the edge of the village and the road connection to the museum are useful for finding your way.
Other natural features are found in different named places: the Ludrovianka stream has numerous meanders, and travertine formations can be found on Čerená Hill.
Plan Hiking and Cycling
The “Do tiesňavy Hučiaky” route starts and ends at the “Ludrová,,otočka” bus stop. The Salatín circular hike includes crossing Hučiaky Gorge and climbing a solitary mountain with beautiful views. The path through the gorge leads from Ludrová into the Salatín National Nature Reserve and onwards to Mount Salatín. Crossing the gorge, the circular hike and the route into the nature reserve are specific points of reference when choosing a hiking theme.
Cycling is different: no marked cycling route passes through Ludrová itself. However, a blue-marked route runs by the All Saints Chapel in Kút. It comes from Ružomberok and continues east via Liptovská Štiavnica and Liptovské Sliače towards Partizánska Ľupča. If you’re planning to cycle, you can bear this distinction in mind: the route passes by the chapel, not directly through Ludrová.
