Hubová lies in the Veľká Fatra mountains. There are several specific ways to get to know the village: the Hubovský okruh nature trail, historic granaries, a church designated as a national cultural monument, and marked cycling routes. The area’s natural history and local history are therefore as much in focus as architecture and cycling. If you are considering Hubová as a travel destination, you can compare these local highlights with your own interests.
Nature Trail and Granary Ensemble
The Hubovský okruh is an 11 km nature trail in the cadastral area of the municipality. It was established in 2017 by the Turistický oddiel Tramp Hubová tourist association. Its interpretation covers natural history, historical and cultural topics. The route therefore offers more than a single thematic perspective: natural history, history and culture are all part of its focus.
The Sýpky stand on the western edge of Hubová, on a slope below a wooded hill and beside the main road. Both the Hubovský okruh and a yellow-marked hiking trail pass by the granary ensemble.
Cultural Monuments and Architectural History
The church “Kostol Povýšenia Svätého Kríža” is a national cultural monument. It is adorned with wall paintings by Jozef Hanula dating from 1905. For those interested in culture, its designation as a monument is linked to a specific artwork and date. The artist and year give the wall painting a distinct historical context among Hubová’s cultural highlights.
The Sýpky are two vernacular granaries dating from the late 19th century. Both are two-room log buildings on stone foundations, with shingle-covered gabled roofs and a high podlomenica. Their dating to the late 19th century distinguishes them in time from the church’s wall paintings, which date from 1905.
Another trace of history lies in the Bystrá dolina in Hubová: there are ruins of an ironworks there, pointing to blacksmithing in this small valley. The village’s history thus encompasses not only the granaries but also a connection to the craft of ironworking.
Cycling Routes and Views
There are three marked cycling routes in the cadastral area of Hubová, with a total length of 15 km. The Černová–Bystrá dolina cycling route is 5.8 km long. It is important to distinguish what each figure refers to: 15 km is the total length of the three cycling routes, while 5.8 km is the length of the individual route mentioned.
The cemetery cross “Kríž na cintoríne” offers views of Veľký Smrekovec, Ostré, Havran, Kopa, Kečka, Kútnikov kopec, Hubová and Švošov. Another point of reference is the “Zastavenie v Sedle Poľana” station: it is located in mountain meadows above Hubová, by the “Sedlo Poľana” hiking signpost. Before heading there, it is worth checking the latest information on access to the trail.
