Lipovec lies on the right bank of the Váh, in the Turiec Basin and at the foot of the Lesser Fatra. Above the village rises Panošiná, a prominent mountain in the southern Lesser Fatra, standing at 1,021.8 metres. This makes both the forested surroundings and a clearly identified mountain destination central to planning a trip.

Forests and protected areas

Most of the area around Lipovec consists of deciduous and mixed forests. The Lesser Fatra National Park lies directly within the cadastral area of Lipovec and is subject to the third level of protection. The Hajasová Nature Reserve is also among the protected areas within the cadastral area. It protects forest communities at lower elevations in the Hoskora catchment area. Alongside Mount Panošiná, protected forest habitats are therefore another specific natural feature to explore.

Hiking trails and commemorative gatherings

A yellow-marked hiking route leads from Lipovec via the monument below Panošiná to the summit. The monument was erected in 1948. Commemorative and hiking gatherings are held on Panošiná every year. The annual ascent commemorates the events of the fighting beneath Strečno during the Slovak National Uprising.

Another hiking option is the ascent along the trail to Kľačianska Magura. Nature and views across the entire Lesser Fatra define this route. The two mountain destinations offer different highlights: Panošiná is associated with the monument and annual gatherings, while Kľačianska Magura is known for its views of the mountain range.

Pond, river trip and cycling route

The small Široká pond is near Lipovec and offers opportunities to relax and take easy walks in nature. When the pond freezes over in winter, it provides space for skating; whether this is possible depends on the weather. Alongside mountain hikes, it offers an option for quieter walks and a weather-dependent winter activity.

A river trip from Lipovec to Strečno covers a 14-kilometre route and takes about two hours as a guideline. Allow some flexibility: the trip duration can vary with water conditions, and seasonal water levels also play a role.

The Turčianska cyklomagistrála passes through Lipovec and is suitable for trekking and mountain bikes. It complements the hiking and water activities with a cycling route through the village. As trail conditions can vary, it is best to check them before setting out.

Bell tower and recreation

In the centre of Lipovec, the bell tower stands at the southern edge of the municipal cemetery. It was built in 1959 to replace an earlier bell tower dating from 1838. The tower houses a late Baroque bell from 1780. The bell is therefore older than both of the tower structures mentioned and adds another historical reference to the local architectural story.

The Centre for Recreation and Sport provides residents and visitors to Lipovec with opportunities for sporting, entertaining and relaxing activities. It is open to children, young people, adults and seniors, as well as local organisations and interest groups.
