A challenging MTB circular route passes through Pavlova Ves—and the village’s history dates back to 1400. This makes Pavlova Ves particularly interesting for travelers who want to combine a sporting tour with rural culture and tangible historical traces. Two questions are key to planning: What role should the 58-kilometer loop play, and how much time would you like to devote to local stories and the landscape?
Cycling Route and Practical Planning
The “Veľký okruh okolo Liptovskej Mary” route is a challenging, 58-kilometer MTB loop that passes through Pavlova Ves. Its length and difficulty make it a key part of trip planning—a dedicated cycling tour rather than a short activity on the side. If you choose the village because of this loop, you can combine cycling with the historical and scenic aspects of Pavlova Ves.
Regional bus line 528 connects Liptovský Mikuláš via Bobrovec and Jalovec with Pavlova Ves, Liptovské Behárovce and Bobrovček. The listed timetable is valid from December 14, 2025. Check departure times for your travel day before setting off.
Pavlova Ves borders the Tatralandia Aquapark. If you want to include the aquapark in your trip, check its current operating status in advance; this may change independently of the village.
Location Between Basin and Mountains
Pavlova Ves is located in the Liptov Basin, near the Western Tatras. Another geographic detail concerns the cadastral area: it lies within the Tatry Transboundary Biosphere Reserve. The location of the village and the protected-area designation therefore describe different levels—the village in the basin near the Western Tatras, and the cadastral area within the reserve.
History and Church Art
Pavlova Ves was founded in 1400. By 1469, the village was already part of the estate of Liptov Castle. Around 1600, it had about ten houses, a mill and a manorial farm. The approximate number of houses and the named agricultural buildings offer a tangible glimpse into the rural settlement of that time.
The original church, referred to as “Kaplnka,” was built in 1932 under parish priest Serafín Rončák. Mikuláš Štalmach painted the ceiling images of the twelve apostles and the altar painting of Saints Peter and Paul. On November 8, 1997, the church was consecrated by Mons. Andrej Imrich, auxiliary bishop of Spiš. Its construction date, artworks and consecration date tell different parts of its history.
Rural Traditions and Cuisine
The historical rural way of life in Pavlova Ves included grazing cattle and horses high in the mountains during the summer. This included, among other things, the wooden troughs in Žleby behind Babky. The village’s history encompasses not only buildings and religious art, but also the everyday use of the surrounding mountain landscape.
Traditional cuisine is also part of the village’s history. Koch was a distinctive specialty of Pavlovecká cuisine and was prepared with mutton tallow. Palovecké hrčky is recorded as a well-known local specialty; bryndza was also considered a special delicacy in Pavlova Ves in the past. Together with the stories of grazing animals, these details paint a picture of the village’s rural traditions.
