In Liptovský Trnovec, the Liptovská Mara Reservoir meets a long local history. The cadastral area extends south to the shore, where the Plážové kúpalisko Liptovský Trnovec is also located. After the reservoir was built, the village developed into a center for summer leisure tourism.
Water activities at Liptovská Mara
At Plážové kúpalisko, jet skis, motorboats, kayaks, and pedal boats are available for hire. This gives you a choice of motorized watercraft as well as kayaks and pedal boats. Rental options may change seasonally, so check again before your trip. The facility also offers ideal conditions for sailing and windsurfing. Theater history and historic churches
In the first half of the 19th century, Liptovský Trnovec was one of the cultural centers of the Liptov region and an important center of the national revival. The foundations of amateur theater were laid in the village in 1864. The first direct mention of a theater performance dates from 1865.
The Evangelical church was built in 1925 on the site of a tolerance church dating from 1784. It houses a commemorative plaque from 1784 and an old altarpiece of the Last Supper from the late 18th century. Both were transferred from the former tolerance church. The Church of the Holy Spirit also forms part of the architectural history: the Neoclassical building was constructed between 1810 and 1820 on the site of a medieval church dating from the early 14th century.
A stone relic and a family brewery
Another historic feature is the stone pillory from the 17th century. Chains with shackles are attached to all four sides. Together with the churches and theater history, it offers a view of Liptovský Trnovec that goes beyond its summer connection to the reservoir.
MARAVAR is also part of the village: the family brewery is located in Liptovský Trnovec and is open daily by prior reservation. Its regular selection includes five beers: 11° pale beer, 12° semi-dark beer, dark stout, IPA, and wheat beer with coriander and orange peel. The range may change; check the reservation details in advance as well.
