The Evangelical Church of the Holy Trinity in Smrecany was completed in 1880. The ancient Hrádok, the Aristid Smrečiansky Manor House, the Pamätná izba Smrečany and a walk along the Smrečianka add clearly distinct themes: early history, architecture, local life and outdoor routes.

Churches and Architectural History

The tower of the Evangelical Church of the Holy Trinity is 25 metres high, and the church has three bells. At the entrance to the grounds of the Evangelical church stands a monument to those who fell in the First World War, naming 29 men from Smrecany who died in the war. The Church of the Presentation of the Lord has a different character, with Gothic tracery windows, Gothic murals and frescoes, and a painted wooden ceiling in the nave. It is a national cultural monument. If you would like to visit outside service times, you must arrange an appointment and a guided tour in advance.

Hrádok and the Manor House

The ancient hillfort of Hrádok is considered one of the best-preserved ancient monuments in Liptov. Its origins are dated to the Hallstatt period, from the 6th to the 4th century BC. In terms of its landform, Hrádok is a spur terrace north of the Gothic church in Smrecany; an earthwork rampart survives on its western side. The Aristid Smrečiansky Manor House marks a different period: it was originally built around 1750 in the Rococo style. Around 1810, its façade was altered in the Neoclassical style, while the original entrance gate with its wooden doors was preserved. The different periods can thus be distinguished: Hrádok is associated with the Hallstatt period, while the manor house is associated with building phases around 1750 and 1810.

Local Life at the Museum

The Pamätná izba Smrečany preserves objects and documents relating to Smrecany’s more than seven-hundred-year history and the way of life of its residents. Exhibits include traditional wooden tools and original local clothing. At old school desks, visitors can browse and read various editions of the works Jano and Stretutie. This brings insights into local history and evidence of everyday life together with a specific reading offer. Amateur theatre is also part of cultural life: this tradition continues in Smrecany to this day.

Walks and Activities

The Green Zone along the Smrečianka offers a walk with stops at information boards. These also guide visitors to the village museum, churches and monuments. The walk can be extended to the monument to the victims of the Second World War battles at Háj-Nicovom. The Green Zone is therefore a culture-focused walking option that can be extended; other routes broaden the choice to include sporting activities. There are numerous routes for hiking, cycling, skiing, ski mountaineering and agritourism; sporting activities are possible in both summer and winter. The routes and trails mentioned are also easily accessible from nearby Liptovský Mikuláš. Via the Žiarska Valley, Smrecany is a gateway to the Western Tatras.
