Almost two-thirds of Dúbrava’s municipal territory lies in the Low Tatras. This means local orientation ranges from mountain scenery to a layered mining and church history. Whether you want to choose between nature and cultural heritage or include both in your travel plans, you’ll find specific points of interest here.

Mountain Scenery and Waterways

At the main ridge of the Low Tatras, Chabenec reaches 1,955 metres above sea level. It lies on the southern boundary of the municipality. The Nízke Tatry Natura 2000 site is also part of Dúbrava’s landscape. The Dúbravka flows through the cadastral area and is its largest watercourse.

Church and Mining History

The Church of St. Andrew the Apostle dates from the 13th century. In the 17th century, it was remodelled and fortified in the Renaissance style. Remains of Gothic wall paintings have been preserved inside. A cultural stay here thus brings together its medieval origins, later architectural changes and visible traces of the Gothic period.

Mining is another focus. At Predpekelná, eight miners from Dúbrava mined antimony ore. They blasted the ore with gunpowder and carried it to the surface in wooden troughs. Banícka faleska is a memorial space opened in 2023, where historical artefacts from Dúbrava’s mining heyday are on display.

The Náučný chodník Banícka cesta educational trail also explores the theme of mining. It is 6.3 kilometres long and described as an easy educational walking trail. It starts near Štátne majetky in Dúbrava. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

Traditions and Events

Older customs passed down through generations included carrying the “Murieny” out of the village before Easter and drowning it in water. Other traditions included carrying out the Dedko, lighting bonfires on St. John’s Eve and further customs before Christmas.

Deň baníckej obce Dúbrava is held annually; the documented edition took place on 14 September 2024. Visitors could enjoy goulash, food and drink stalls, and craft stalls. The programme may vary at future editions. If you are planning to attend the festival, check the date of the relevant edition. The children’s group of FSk Chabenec also performs folklore programmes at events in Dúbrava and outside the municipality. Performance dates are not fixed.

Planning Your Visit

Banícka faleska is accessible by car, with free parking in front of the mine buildings. As parking conditions may change, it is advisable to check before travelling. Dúbrava is also connected to Liptovský Mikuláš by a regular bus service. Check the current timetable before your journey. When choosing accommodation, it helps to decide whether mining history, the church, or the trails and landscape will shape your stay.
