There are several ways to plan a trip to Bobrovec: mountain hikes, nature in the Jalovecká dolina, and local products and history. Sivý vrch offers a specific hiking destination with views of Liptov and Orava. At Salaš Pastierska, regional sheep’s milk specialities and pony rides for children are the main attractions. You can tailor your stay to whether you mainly want to hike or also include nature, food and culture.

Hiking: Sivý vrch and Babky z Bobrovca

Sivý vrch, at 1,805 m, is part of the Western Tatras and can be reached from Bobrovec. The hike offers views of Liptov and Orava. This destination thus combines a specific elevation with views of two named regions. Trail conditions can vary; plan your departure with the current situation in mind.

The “Babky z Bobrovca” route is classified as an alpine hike, ridge walk and nature trail. Unlike Sivý vrch, for which views of Liptov and Orava are noted, these three classifications provide a different point of reference for choosing a route. The route classification may change; check the latest information before setting out.

The starting point for the hike to Sivý vrch is at Bobrovecká Vápenica. There is a free car park there with sufficient capacity. As parking availability can change, it is a good idea to check the current situation before your visit.

Bobrovecká Vápenica is also a useful point of reference for winter planning: the “Babky z Bobrovca” ski touring route starts at the car park. Winter access conditions can change, so it is advisable to check them before setting out.

Jalovecká dolina: flora and landscape

Jalovecká dolina is an almost complete example of the flora and fauna of the Tatra National Park. The nature theme therefore extends beyond individual viewpoints to include the valley’s plant and animal life. For travel planning, this is a separate focus alongside the hiking destinations at Sivý vrch and the “Babky z Bobrovca” route.

One of the distinctive features of Jalovecká dolina is the rare klinček lesklý. This plant is found only in Slovakia and is considered a Western Carpathian palaeoendemic; it already existed in the Tertiary. For nature enthusiasts, this named species adds a specific example—with a very limited range and ancient history—to the general picture of the valley’s flora.

Sheep’s milk specialities and ponies at Salaš Pastierska

Traditional sheep’s milk specialities are made at Salaš Pastierska and sold in the local koliba. These include fresh and smoked sheep’s cheese, sheep’s bryndza and žinčica. This adds a culinary dimension to a trip focused on hiking and nature: the products are made from sheep’s milk and offered at the same location.

Children can also ride ponies at Salaš Pastierska. If you are planning a visit to Bobrovec with children, this is a specific activity for them that can be considered independently of the hiking destinations described above.

Local history: St. Joseph’s Column and St. George’s Church

Bobrovec’s carpenters’ guild left behind St. Joseph’s Column. A bell dating from 1527 is housed in the tower of St. George’s Church. The church also contains two images of St. George, including one showing him on horseback. Together, these examples offer different points of connection with local history: the column and its link to the carpenters’ guild, as well as the bell and images in the church.
