Hradište lies in the deep valley of the Držkovo stream at the foot of the Stolické vrchy mountains. For a stay here, you can focus on the route to Jasenina, the character of the forest, or the village’s history.
Forests and hiking
A paved road leads from Hradište into the Hradišské vrchy mountains. After four kilometres, turn onto a hiking trail that runs from Málinec to Jasenina. The route to Jasenina is considered easy and is approximately 10 km long. The four kilometres mark the turn-off, while around ten kilometres is the length of the route to Jasenina.
The forests around Hradište consist mainly of deciduous trees: oaks, beeches, hornbeams, and Hungarian oaks shape their character. In the Hradišské vrchy, the landscape is defined by scattered settlements, preserved elements of original architecture, and richly varied vegetation.
After a long absence, bears, lynxes, wildcats, and wolves have once again become permanent residents of the forests around Hradište. The slopes offer blackberries and rose hips, and mushroom picking is also an option. Seasonal availability depends on the time of year and conditions.
The protected sweet chestnut trees known as Hradišské gaštany grow at the back of the garden of house no. 127 in the cadastral area of Hradište pri Uhorskom. The two trees are about 200 years old and 22 and 25 metres tall, respectively.
Architecture and local history
The Bronze Age hillfort in the locality of Hrádok and the Neoclassical manor house built in 1822 represent widely separated historical periods. Here, an archaeological site from the Bronze Age meets the architectural history of the 19th century.
Hradište’s central Evangelical church is an Art Nouveau building with a hall-plan layout and a tall projecting tower. The hall-plan describes a hall-like interior, while the tower projects in front of the church building. The Neoclassical altar features the painting “Kristus na mori” by the painter František Gyurkovits from Lučenec. The title means “Christ on the Sea.”
Services are held in the Evangelical church every third Sunday. If you wish to include a service in your plans, confirm the date locally.
The chapel of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus stands in the scattered settlements of Hradište. Each year, a church feast (odpust) is held there for the feast of the same name; confirm the date locally. The church and chapel offer different cultural themes: Art Nouveau architecture and an altarpiece on the one hand, and the annual church feast on the other.
Hradište’s traditional crafts include making wheels and wooden household items. There is also an orchard near the village, where mainly high-quality apple varieties are grown without chemical treatment. It is maintained by the local civic association OZ PreHradište.
