For a trip to Tutova Commune, nature and archaeological traces offer two distinct points of focus. Pădurea Bădeana is a protected forest and botanical nature reserve. The Bădeana-Lot 1-5, 1-7, and 1-8 settlements differ in their location details and finds. The village of Tutova was first mentioned in a document in 1436. When looking for a holiday rental, you can first decide whether nature, archaeology, or village history will play a bigger role in your stay.

Pădurea Bădeana Nature Reserve

Pădurea Bădeana is a nationally protected forest and botanical nature reserve in IUCN Category IV. It was established in 1973 and covers 58.60 hectares. The protected area preserves floral elements typical of the forest-steppe zone. Pădurea Bădeana is considered suitable for excursions. Its protection status, size, and characteristic flora give nature-loving travelers specific points to consider when planning.

The bird species listed as being of community importance in the protected area include Aquila heliaca, Falco vespertinus, and Picus canus. These species add a specific perspective on birdlife to the botanical focus. Plants and the named bird species are thus distinct nature themes within the same reserve.

Archaeological Settlements near Bădeana

The Bădeana-Lot 1-5 archaeological settlement lies at the foot of Valea Ţaga, on the left side of DN 24 at kilometer 58+500, ten meters from the road. Its location in relation to the valley, side of the road, and kilometer marker distinguishes it from the other Bădeana-Lot settlements.

Bădeana-Lot 1-7 is also on the left side of DN 24, at kilometer 58+600 and one kilometer from the village of Bădeana. Ceramic fragments were found at this settlement on agricultural land. The lot number is important for distinguishing this site from Bădeana-Lot 1-5.

Bădeana-Lot 1-8 lies two kilometers north of the village of Bădeana, on the right side of the road, between the road and the railway line, at kilometer 61+700. This settlement is documented as having been inhabited during the Migration Period in the 3rd to 4th centuries, and ceramic fragments have also been found there. Unlike the other two settlements, it therefore also has an explicitly dated historical connection.

The location details are easiest to distinguish by lot number, road reference, and kilometer marker. Tutova Commune is on DN 24; Bădeana-Lot 1-5 and 1-7 are specifically located on its left side. For Bădeana-Lot 1-8, the right side of the road and the railway line are part of the site description.

History and Local Orientation

The village of Tutova was first mentioned in a document on September 19, 1436. Together with the settlement of Bădeana-Lot 1-8, dated to the 3rd to 4th centuries, this creates a clear chronological contrast between archaeological settlement and documentary mention. Viticulture is also one of the economic activities of Tutova Commune, adding an economic aspect to the nature and history themes.

A 2014 route report gives the distance from Bădeana to Rezervaţia Bădeana as approximately five to six kilometers. It lists walking, cycling, and driving as options; walking is recommended within the reserve. This recommendation applies to the reserve itself, not to the entire route there. If you plan to take this route, check the current route and conditions before setting out.
