Văleni-Stânișoara is a long, narrow mountain settlement in a valley. This shape gives the place a distinct spatial character; the monument and wooden church provide two different historical points of reference. There is also a cycling tour on the Drumul Talienilor and a ski slope with a ski lift in the village of Văleni. This brings cultural history and outdoor activities together when planning your trip. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first consider which of these interests you would like to shape your stay.

Landscape and character of the settlement

The valley is the settlement’s basic geographical setting. As a long, narrow place, Văleni-Stânișoara differs from a compact centre: the shape of the valley defines its character, while individual buildings and activities reveal other aspects of the place. This mix is a good starting point for organising your travel interests—whether you are more interested in the landscape, history or outdoor activities.

Monumentul Ostaşilor Români

On the edge of Văleni-Stânișoara, at the foot of a fir forest, stands the Monumentul Ostaşilor Români. It commemorates the Romanian soldiers who lost their lives in the fighting against German troops in August 1944. The monument was unveiled on 22 August 1964.

The monument is about 2.5 metres high. Beside it stands a wooden cross above a mass grave containing the remains of Romanian and German combatants. Thus, at this site, a clearly defined act of remembrance meets the memory of the combatants resting in the shared grave.

The access path from the roadside to the monument has been completely rebuilt, and benches have been installed at the memorial. A spring beside it provides passers-by with fresh drinking water. As the condition of these facilities may change, it is advisable to check whether they are usable before your visit.

Wooden church and tradition

Another historical point of interest is the Biserica de Lemn, the wooden church in Văleni-Stânișoara. It has been in use since 1886; the old bell tower was built in 1915. According to tradition, the church originally belonged to the monks of Slatina Monastery. This origin is identified as a traditional attribution.

Those interested in history will find more here than a single date or period.

Cycling and winter sports

The cycling tour on the Drumul Talienilor starts at the Pârtia Pojorâta car park in Văleni-Stânișoara. The starting point is specified, but route conditions and surfaces may change. Check the current conditions before setting out.

Another winter sports option lies in the southern part of Mălini commune: in the village of Văleni, on the way out towards Pasul Stânișoara, there is a ski slope and a ski lift. The cycling tour starts in Văleni-Stânișoara, while the ski slope is in the village of Văleni.
