Lake Amara shapes the town in two ways. It is designated as a special 162-hectare avifaunal reserve in Amara, Ialomiţa County, and is also the spa resort’s main tourist attraction and most important natural therapeutic resource. In this way, Amara brings together its lakeside setting and spa traditions. The lake and balneotherapy treatments are natural starting points when planning a stay; cultural history and local events add further highlights.

Lake, spa treatments and beaches

The spa town has facilities offering mud packs and cold mud rubs, followed by baths in Lake Amara. If you would like to include these treatments in your stay, confirm the specific facility before travelling. Choosing a beach is a separate consideration: tourists can choose from four beaches – Perla, UGSR, Splendid and Mirceşti. They are privately managed, and access conditions may change; check them before visiting. This lets you plan for two distinct reasons to visit the lake: the described sequence of treatments and access to one of the named beaches.

Cultural history and event dates

The town’s history can also be traced through specific dates: construction of the CHURCH OF SAINT NICHOLAS AND SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST - AMARA I began in 1893; it was consecrated on 6 August 1898. Music lovers can look out for “Trofeul Tineretii”, a national competition for performers of Romanian light music. Check its current dates separately. The Amara Spa and Tourism Festival is held annually; the 2018 edition included shows and dance competitions. You should also check the dates and programme for the relevant edition before travelling.

Previous editions of the Pancake Festival combined a culinary competition with shows and sporting competitions; they took place at the Grădina de Vară in Amara, with free admission. Check whether and when a new edition will take place, and what access conditions apply, for your travel dates.

Getting there and finding your way around

Slobozia is a useful reference point for getting there: Amara can be reached from there via DN2C. The Amara–Slobozia tourist route in Ialomiţa County also runs from Amara to Slobozia. If you would like to visit both towns, check the route conditions and the attractions along the way in advance. The Laguna Blue leisure complex opened in 2012 on a 3,000 m² site.

The Amara CNIPT is located at DN 2C, Strada Tudor Vladimirescu, Zona Complex Perla, Amara, Ialomiţa County. If you plan to use a visit there to help you find your way around, confirm the opening hours in advance.

Choose Amara as an overnight destination

These highlights raise different planning questions – which facility provides a particular treatment, what access conditions apply at a beach, or when an event is taking place.
