When planning a trip to Voşlăbeni, the nature reserve, architectural history and hiking trails offer different points of interest. The Mlaștina „După Luncă“ nature reserve combines national protection status with a specifically named flora. The church history clearly distinguishes between two years of construction, while the Via Mariae offers a stage with a stated distance and duration. A monastery nearby and another hiking route complete the picture. You can therefore consider nature, history and outdoor activities as different focal points of your stay.

Mlaștina „După Luncă“: nature reserve and plants

The Mlaștina „După Luncă“ nature reserve is a nationally protected area. It overlaps with the site of community importance of the same name and with the „Depresiunea și Munții Giurgeului“ Natura 2000 Special Protection Area for birds in Romania. The marsh is home to numerous rare and endangered plants, including the round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia) and the common butterwort (Pinguicula vulgaris). The Siberian ligularia (Ligularia sibirica) also occurs here as a relict species. The botanical information thus distinguishes between rare and endangered species and a species classified as a relict.

Church history in two construction phases

The Orthodox Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel in Voşlăbeni was built in 1864 to replace an older wooden church. This predecessor had been consecrated in 1714 by Bishop Sava III of Roman. The dates therefore refer to two different churches and different events: 1714 to the consecration of the wooden predecessor, and 1864 to the construction of the later church. The building history can thus be understood as a chronological sequence rather than as a single construction date.

Traditions of the Voşlăbeni commune

The distinctive local character of the Voşlăbeni commune and its associated villages includes traditional recipes, local customs, crafts and traditional activities. The cultural profile therefore encompasses cuisine, customs and craft practices as well as church history. A separate historical note concerns the bell tower in Boteni, built in 1901.

Monastery in a striking location

The Adormirea Maicii Domnului Monastery is located near Voşlăbeni on the DN 12 between Miercurea Ciuc and Gheorgheni. It lies at the foot of Hășmașul Mare, between the Mureș and Olt rivers, at an altitude of 950 m. The road and towns provide road access points; the mountain and rivers describe the landscape setting. The altitude adds a specific measure to this orientation.

Hiking trails with different points of reference

A stage of the Via Mariae runs from Suseni via Voşlăbeni to Cârța and covers 26.6 km, taking nine hours. This duration is an important time block when planning your day. Current trail conditions may vary; check them before setting out. A hiking route in the area connects Izvoru Mureșului, Muntele Negru and Peștera Șugău. The two routes offer different points of reference for planning: the Via Mariae has a stated distance and duration, while the other route is characterized by the places it connects.
