Valea Rece brings together nature and culture, with specific points of interest to help you plan: a CR route between Bălan and Valea Rece, the waterfall at the village entrance and protected sites dating from different periods. An August festival and the Csángó Feredő spa center add to the possible highlights of a visit.
Waterfall and CR Route
Cascada Zogo (Iavardi) is located at the entrance to Valea Rece. The waterfall is about 10 m high; the water spreads into several channels and flows over rock typical of this volcanic mountain region. Cascada Iavardi is therefore also one of the points along a CR route that continues to Valea Rece.
The CR route runs between Bălan and Valea Rece on forest roads. It is recommended for cycling, but can also be completed on foot. Along the way, it passes through hay meadows and by hay barns. After 4.5 km, it passes Cascada Iavardi and then continues to Valea Rece. When deciding whether to cycle or walk, both the stated travel options and the sequence of landscapes and waterfall are relevant. As trail conditions can change, check them before setting out.
Finding Your Way at the Village Entrance
Road 127A branches off about 600 m from the bridge over the Trotuș and leads toward Valea Rece. At the village entrance, it crosses the Valea Rece stream over a bridge. These two details help orient you on the approach: first, the turnoff at the bridge over the Trotuș, then the stream crossing at the village entrance. As road conditions can change, check the route for updates before driving.
Protected Sites and Chapel
The protected Csillag Péter farmstead dates from the 19th century and is located at address 1124 in Valea Rece. The also-protected Focze Istvan farmstead dates from the early 20th century; its address is 822. The protected site “Piua pentru cergi (Kicsi Káruly) Tankó Péter,” at address 912, dates from the same period. In terms of chronology, Csillag Péter represents the 19th century, while the other two sites date from the early 20th century. Names and addresses help distinguish these different historical points of reference.
Another local landmark is the “Schimbarea la Față” chapel. It is located in the cemetery by the Jávárdi stream, next to house 1181. The stream, cemetery and house number are specific reference points for its location; the chapel adds a place of worship to the farmsteads.
Festival and Spa Center
The “Festivalul Ceangăiesc al mămăligii cu brânză” festival takes place every year in August in Valea Rece, in the commune of Lunca de Jos. Its purpose is to protect and promote traditions; the festival also includes a market featuring local products. The annual event in August offers a seasonal reference point, but the exact date may change. If you would like to plan your visit around the festival, check the date for the relevant year before making plans.
The “Csángó Feredő” spa center is located in the village of Valea Rece. If you are planning a visit, check the latest information in advance, as details about the facility may change.
Choose Accommodation Based on the Purpose of Your Trip
For the CR route, the route itself and current trail conditions are relevant; for the festival, it is the specific date in August. The protected sites and chapel, by contrast, offer a focus on cultural history, conveyed through their different construction periods and named locations. Each calls for a different kind of planning: trail conditions, an event date or architectural history. Choose your accommodation search based on which of these themes you want to shape your stay.
