Springs, two Roman burgi and a variety of leisure activities define Băile Homorod. Local history, natural features and resort offerings therefore stand alongside one another as different reasons to visit.
Mineral Springs and Spa History
There are about twelve mineral-water springs and wells in the area of Băile Homorod. Among the best known are Izvorul Lobogó and Izvorul Mária. The number refers to the area as a whole; Lobogó and Mária are two particularly well-known names among the springs. The properties of the water at Izvorul Lobogó are specific: it is slightly carbonated, chloride-sodium-rich, alkaline, iron-rich and hypotonic. The mineral waters of Băile Homorod were already known in Roman times.
The spa resort began to develop significantly in the 19th century. Villas, restaurants, promenades and music pavilions were built around the springs at that time. This brings together two historical references: the mineral waters were known as far back as Roman times, while the resort’s architectural development began later, in the 19th century. Those interested in the history of the place will therefore find both an early connection with mineral water and a concrete account of the later development around the springs.
Two Roman Burgi
The Roman burgus HR-I-s-B-12650 is located on the Földvár promontory, at the confluence of the Cetăţii stream and the V Homorodului. The second burgus, HR-I-s-B-12651, is also located on the Földvár promontory, but at the fork of the Văii Seci. It is 200 metres from the fortification at Pârâul Cetăţii. Both sites date from the 2nd century AD. The location details distinguish the two sites: the first is identified by a stream confluence, while the second is identified by a fork and a specified distance from the fortification at Pârâul Cetăţii. These differences help distinguish the historical reference points rather than treating the Roman sites as a single location.
Leisure Activities at Lobogó Resort
Lobogó Resort has a swimming pool measuring 25 × 8.5 metres and 1.20 to 1.40 metres deep. There is also a 5 × 3 metre pool for babies and toddlers. The separate measurements make clear that these are two pools of different dimensions; the smaller one is specifically intended for the youngest users. In addition to the Lobogó ski slope, there is also a 100-metre-long toboggan run for children. When planning your trip, you can weigh up the pools and the toboggan run as different leisure options at the resort.
Horse riding is also one of the leisure activities at Lobogó Resort. If it is important for your trip, check whether it is available on your travel dates before booking. The resort serves Romanian, Hungarian and traditional Székely dishes; the offerings are updated at the beginning of each season. If you are travelling specifically for a particular cuisine, ask about the seasonal menu in advance.
These highlights offer different points of interest for a break at the spa resort.
