City History and Museums
Casa cu Arcade houses a permanent multimedia monographic exhibition. It covers the history of Sfântu Gheorghe, the city’s cultural life and various historical events. The Székely National Museum presents different historical perspectives: its permanent exhibition “Dna Cserey – 200” is dedicated to Emília Cserey Zathureczky, her museum work and her cultural contribution. Following renovation, the museum’s main building and park can be visited again. Visitor arrangements may change; check them before your visit.
The exhibition “Geniile din spatele eroilor” at the Székely National Museum explores Three Chairs during the 1848–1849 War of Independence. Topics include the organisation of self-defence, the war industry and cannon casting. Those interested in archaeology can visit “Așezarea preistorică Păuleni-Ciuc «Dâmbul Cetății»” at the National Museum of the Eastern Carpathians. The Szeklerland Public Hunting Collection is also part of the cultural offering. It is housed in Casa Bene, a historic monument building constructed in 1914 and renovated in 2013. The Szeklerland Hunting Exhibition includes more than 500 hunting trophies. The exhibitions therefore cover topics ranging from city history and museum work to the archaeological past and hunting history.
Parks and Outdoor Activities
Elisabeta Central Park is the largest park in Sfântu Gheorghe. Shaded paths run alongside a small water-lily lake; the park also includes a maze and a playground. In the Gara district, another place for outdoor activities is the green space around the lake. As of July 2026, it included an area of about three hectares, paved paths, a tartan-surfaced running track and sports courts. The two places offer different features: the lake, paths, maze and playground shape the experience at Elisabeta Central Park, while the running track and sports courts complement the paths at the lake in Gara.
The Una cu Natura–Vadon Visitor Centre presents the region’s habitats: meadows, alpine pastures, forests, waterside habitats and peat bogs. Visitors can explore the exhibitions using 3D models, interactive panels and sound effects. This gives visitors the opportunity to learn about the featured habitats not only by name, but also through a range of exhibition elements. The visitor centre is located in Șugaș-Băi.
Sepsi Bike, Sfântu Gheorghe’s bicycle rental system, launched in 2024 with 120 bicycles and operated seasonally. Check current availability before making plans to include the system in your stay.
Art and Seasonal Events
The contemporary art festival pulzArt has been held in Sfântu Gheorghe since 2013 and encourages new ways of thinking about art. The Târg de Toamnă offers a different occasion: it takes place every year in Piața Libertății and usually lasts a weekend. Traditional products and harvest produce are presented, along with demonstrations of traditional crafts and cooking demonstrations.
