Venus combines a long beach with the artificial Lacul Venus and striking hotel architecture. Green spaces, mineral springs and water sports also shape the resort. When choosing a stay, you can focus on different things: the beach and water activities sit alongside a wetland to the southwest and a distinctive architectural history.

Beach, lake and protected landscape

Venus Beach is approximately 1.5 kilometers long and up to 200 meters wide. Three deep bays divide it into narrow sections. The resort is arranged around the artificial Lacul Venus and has the largest green space among the seaside resorts on the coast. The beach, lake and green spaces give Venus a varied landscape.

The Mlaștina Hergheliei nature reserve lies southwest of Venus. Covering 98 hectares, the area is classified as a mixed reserve and includes open water, marsh vegetation and reed beds. It offers a distinct landscape alongside the beach and lake. Sulfurous hypothermal mineral springs also rise within the resort area.

Water sports and excursions

Water sports in Venus include yachting, windsurfing and pedal boating. Pedal boat rides are also offered as a leisure activity on Lacul Venus. Other nautical activities include parasailing, kitesurfing, banana boat rides and jet skiing. There are also scuba diving courses and sea trips on various boats. Providers and seasonal availability may change, so check what is on offer for your travel dates in advance.

The Herghelia Mangalia stud farm is about 3 kilometers from Venus. It specializes in breeding purebred Arabian horses. Visitor activities include public presentation tours, riding shows and riding lessons at its own racetrack. If you plan to visit, check dates and access in advance, as offerings and arrangements may change.

Hotel architecture with a history

Venus was designed and built in the early 1970s. The Hotel Raluca is a distinctive example: the building is circular, has four floors and a Japanese garden at its center. The Vulturul, Cocorul and Pajura high-rises also stand out for their design. Their floor plans resemble a spider, with rooms arranged radially around a central core and angled differently in relation to it.

The hotel names are another distinctive feature of the resort: most are named after women from Roman mythology or after flowers. Together with the varied building shapes, they give hotel architecture in Venus a character of its own, distinct from the resort’s landscape.

Getting to Venus
