Luna de Sus has a distinct cultural and historical focus: two churches tell different architectural stories, while archaeological sites span several periods. For your travel planning, you can separate two questions: Which architectural styles interest you, and which periods would you like to compare? The architectural and dating information ranges from Gothic and Baroque styles to prehistoric and Roman archaeological periods.

Churches with Different Architectural Histories

The Reformed Calvinist Church in Luna de Sus was built in the Gothic style. Its coffered ceiling was made in 1752 by the Saxon craftsman Umling the Elder; the church tower was built in 1828 in the Baroque style. To understand its history, it is therefore important to consider not only terms for architectural styles but also the dates of individual parts: the church style, ceiling and tower each represent different aspects of its architectural history.

The Orthodox Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel offers a different chronological perspective. Construction of the brick church began in 1927 during the tenure of priest Ioan Radu; it was consecrated in 1928 by Bishop Nicolae Ivan. The cruciform floor plan was designed by architect Kuncz Ernest. The year of construction, material, consecration and floor plan offer concrete points of comparison without presenting the two churches as having a single, unified architectural history.

Archaeological Traces of Time and Their Locations

Râpa Dracului near Luna de Sus is a Bronze Age and Hallstatt-period fortification and settlement site. The archaeological site of Dealul Ţarineş is associated with five periods: the Palaeolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age, Hallstatt period and Migration Period. This allows for different points of emphasis: Râpa Dracului is identified by site type and two periods, while Dealul Ţarineş has a broader chronological classification.

Dealul Ţarineş lies west of Luna de Sus and about 350 metres east of the A3 Transilvania motorway. The Roman Tower of Luna de Sus – Dealul Mic 5 dates to the 2nd–3rd century and lies southwest of the village in Pădurea Orașului forest. While Dealul Ţarineş is associated with several periods, the tower is assigned to a clearly defined Roman period. These archaeological sites relate to different places and questions of chronology.

Plan Bus Connections and Routes Separately

CTP metropolitan bus line M23 connects Calea Florești with Luna de Sus. Check the latest information about the line before travelling.

One route starts at the roundabout at the entrance to Luna de Sus. It passes through Stolna and Someșu Rece, then runs past Gilău Reservoir and reaches Gilău. As route information can change, check the current route before planning.

The two points of reference answer different planning questions: M23 identifies a connection between Calea Florești and Luna de Sus; the route describes a sequence through several places to Gilău. If you are considering both, plan them as separate options and check the latest information for each.
