At the wooden church of “Pogorârea Sfântului Spirit” in Frata, the year 1827 is engraved in two places as the year the building was constructed: on the entrance frame and at the foot of the altar table. Sollyom Ignat painted the church in 1847. The two dates therefore mark different stages in its history. The wooden church is listed as a protected historic monument under code CJ-II-m-B-7617.

Dance Traditions and Collections

Frata’s cultural heritage also includes traditional dance forms. “Bărbunc” and “Românește în ponturi,” as forms of “Jocul Fecioresc” specific to Frata, have been part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2015. Frata’s traditional dance group was re-established in 2000; students from Școala Gimnazială Frata perform in the folk dance group “Frateanca.” Traditional dress is also part of this tradition: artisan Raveca Soporan keeps it alive through a sewing craft passed down through generations. Dance, dress and craftsmanship showcase different aspects of the local cultural heritage.

The Museum of Traditions is located in a room at the local school. Its collection includes old objects donated by residents of the commune. A 2017 description details the collection at the ethnographic museum in Școala Gimnazială Frata: traditional household utensils, tools for processing wool and hemp, old folk costumes, footwear more than 100 years old, hand embroidery and textiles from the loom. The collection thus ranges from everyday domestic life to materials and work related to textile production.

In Berchieșu, also within the commune, stands an oak estimated to be around 400 years old. Soporu de Câmpie has its own village museum: also known as “Ograda Satului,” it is a private cultural attraction that opened in July 2021. The local gastronomic point Căsuța La Mustață is located at Principală 73 in Soporu de Câmpie.

Landscape and Getting Around

The commune of Frata lies in the hilly landscape of the Transylvanian Plain. Within the commune, the Valea Frății valley gathers the side valleys; via the Luduș stream, it reaches the Mureș. This information situates Frata within a landscape that extends beyond its village centres.

The road connection can also be understood in regional terms: county road DJ 150 runs through the commune of Frata on the Viișoara–Frata–Mociu route. It connects the Mociu area on DN 16 with the Câmpia Turzii area on DN 15. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can weigh up the different points of interest: architectural history and dance traditions, museum collections, or landscape and regional orientation. This will help you decide which aspects of Frata you would like to focus on during your stay.
