Discover Reşiţa through its industrial technology and film history. Alongside locomotives, a historic transport system and a power station, film and theatre posters, a digital city museum, a kinetic fountain and a viewpoint at the edge of the forest reveal different sides of the city. When planning your stay, you can decide what to focus on based on whether you are especially interested in technology, film and theatre history, or art and landscape.

Industrial history told through machines and structures

The Muzeul Virtual Reșița is a digital museum dedicated to the city that celebrates 250 years of industrial history. For a closer look at technical objects, visit the Muzeul de Locomotive cu Abur Reșița: this open-air museum is at the entrance to the city from the direction of Timişoara and houses 16 exhibits from different construction periods. Its most important exhibit is considered to be RESICZA, one of the first three steam locomotives in southeastern Europe, built in Reşiţa between 1872 and 1873.

The Funicularul din Reşiţa tells another part of the city's industrial history. Built between 1963 and 1964, the system was once used to transport limestone and formed a 3.5-kilometre-long bridge, 700 metres of which ran through the city. The two measurements indicate different scales: the length of the entire bridge and the section within the city. The structure thus represents a distinct chapter in the history of industrial infrastructure, alongside the locomotives and their various construction periods.

The Centrala hidroelectrică Grebla is also part of this technical heritage. Dating from 1903, it is the city's oldest power station still in operation. It is also notable that it still has the same Pelton turbines with which it was originally equipped. Here, the power station's age goes hand in hand with the preservation of its original technology.

Film, theatre and their collections

The Muzeul Banatului Montan preserves almost 3,500 film posters from 1940 to 1990, as well as more than 200 theatre posters. The film posters span a clearly defined period; the theatre posters add another medium to the collection. If you want to understand Reşiţa through more than its machines, this collection offers another way to explore the history of film and theatre.

The Muzeul Cineastului Amator Reșita is a private initiative. It aims to research and share publicly the importance of the amateur film movement in Romania. Its main collection consists of film cameras and projectors. Activities include training camps for amateur filmmakers and a cine club coordinated by the museum. If you plan to take part, check in advance whether an event is scheduled during your stay.

City views and art

The Fântâna Cinetică din Reşiţa is located in the city centre. It is one of nine kinetic fountains by Romanian monumental sculptor Constantin Lucaci, who was awarded the Herder Prize in 1984. The focus here is on the artwork and its connection to its creator.

Poiana Golului at the edge of the forest offers a different perspective: a viewpoint there provides an exceptional view of Reşiţa. The fountain in the city centre and the viewpoint are therefore quite different in character. You can use this range of options to guide your choice of stay: technical history, film and theatre posters, or art and city views.
