A mountain hiking trail leads from Săcele via Bunloc to Cabana Piatra Mare and onward to the Piatra Mare summit. Other nature highlights include the Canionul 7 Scări gorge and Peștera de Gheață ice cave; Casa Belloiu and Sântilia offer cultural connections. The range therefore extends from a named mountain route and geological features to the history of the Mocani from Săcele.

Canionul 7 Scări: Gorge, Stream and Stairs

The Canionul 7 Scări gorge is carved into Jurassic limestone. It is 160 m long and has an elevation difference of 58 m. The 7 Scări stream flows through it. The seven metal stairs include sections ranging from 2.5 to 15 m in height, which turn into waterfalls. Limestone, the stream and the stairs together shape the character of this natural attraction.

The measurements describe different aspects: the length and elevation difference refer to the gorge, while the height figures refer to the individual stairs. To reach the main entrance, walk from Dâmbul Morii via national road DN1, following the yellow trail markers. The gorge therefore has a different named access point from the mountain hiking trail that starts in Săcele.

Via Bunloc to Piatra Mare

On the mountain hiking trail from Săcele, Bunloc, Cabana Piatra Mare and the Piatra Mare summit come one after another. This sequence does not just name the trail after its destination: Bunloc is a mountain along the route, before the trail leads to the cabin and summit. The Piatra Mare Massif reaches a maximum elevation of 1,844 m at the Piatra Mare summit; Mount Bunloc reaches a maximum elevation of 1,185 m. These two elevation figures give you a sense of the different mountains along the route.

Bunloc also has its own connection to paragliding and is one of the areas particularly sought out and valued by paragliders. The Peștera de Gheață ice cave is another nearby nature attraction and is among the Piatra Mare Massif’s important tourist destinations. The “7 Scări” zipline is another notable feature: it is over 3.5 km long. Together, these names give a broader picture of the natural attractions without conflating the mountain hiking trail with the individual destinations.

Cultural Heritage in Săcele

Casa Belloiu is located in the Cernatu district, at Str. Narciselor No. 31 in Brașov County. The building is classified as a Group B historic monument; the relevant decision dates from March 4, 2005. This classification distinguishes the building as a monument from the area’s natural attractions.

Sântilia is closely connected to the lives and work of the Mocani from Săcele. The Mocani traveled great distances with their flocks of sheep. This connection gives the festival a specific cultural link to shepherding and the routes traveled with the flocks. Casa Belloiu and Sântilia therefore represent different cultural themes: a building classified as a monument and a tradition associated with the work of the Mocani.

Plan Your Stay Around Your Starting Point

Săcele is the starting point for the mountain hiking trail; the main entrance to the gorge is reached from Dâmbul Morii via DN1, following the yellow trail markers. Keep this distinction in mind when choosing accommodation for your plans. This way, your arrangements are guided by the excursion that is most important to you, whether a mountain trail, the gorge or a cultural attraction.
