Măgura lies within Piatra Craiului National Park and brings together three distinct travel interests: mountain hiking, cycling routes and culture. When planning your trip, you can therefore consider which of these interests you would like to focus on most. The individual attractions and trails differ considerably—from hiking in the park and routes with varying conditions to cultural sites and events.

Scenery and hiking in the national park

Piatra Craiului National Park includes areas belonging to the village of Măgura. The village is also located within the Natura 2000 sites ROSCI0194 Piatra Craiului and ROSPA0165 Piatra Craiului. Visitors can use the national park’s mountain hiking trails in this area. The park administration also offers visits to the mountain village of Măgura and traditional sheepfolds.

Other visitor activities relate to the national park and include guided excursions to observe wildlife and identify animal tracks, visits to primeval forests, and educational trails. These activities add nature observation and learning to the experience of the landscape. The national park administration offers these activities in the park.

Prăpăstiile Măgurei is also part of the region’s appeal: the commune of Moieciu lists the gorge as one of its tourist attractions. Its connection to the commune is broader than the village of Măgura itself.

Cycling routes with different profiles

Cycling route 4 is rated moderate. Shortly before Casa Folea, it descends into the village of Măgura; it also runs downhill via Coturile Măgurii to Fântâna lui Botorog. Route 7 passes through Măgura and continues into the area above Prăpăstiile Zărneștiului. This route offers views of the Bran slope of the Bucegi Mountains and the eastern slope of Piatra Craiului.

For route 8, both its course through the village and the trail conditions should be taken into account: it climbs via Coturile Măgurii through Măgura. In the direction of Moieciu de Jos, it includes a steep descent with water crossings and muddy pools. These details distinguish the routes by their course and character without specifying a walking or cycling time. Check the current route description when planning your trip, especially for the section with water crossings and muddy spots.

Cultural sites and traditions

Casa Artiștilor in Măgura is a venue for concerts, artist residencies and other cultural events. The house has hosted SoNoRo concerts several times. Festivalul de Artă Sacră Măgura is a recurring cultural event, with editions held in 2023, 2024 and 2025. The 2024 edition’s program included sewing and weaving traditional garments, a traditional bread-making workshop and a folk-dance workshop with choreographer Benone Pepine.

Another glimpse into local traditions can be found at the traditional Runceanu house, a wooden house in Măgura. The making of traditional brooms is also featured in a workshop, which includes gathering birch twigs and hazel rods, weaving the broom bundles and attaching them to handles. If you plan to attend this workshop, check its availability in advance.

Măgura brings together several sides of the destination: trails and nature experiences in the national park, cycling routes with specific differences in scenery and practical conditions, and cultural activities ranging from concerts to traditional crafts. This combination gives you a basis for deciding which experiences will shape your stay.
