Colibița connects Lacul Colibița with hiking destinations in the Călimani and Bârgăului Mountains. The lake lies at an altitude of approximately 800 meters, on the boundary between the two mountain ranges. This makes it possible to combine activities on the water with trails leading to viewpoints and mountain scenery. When planning, it is important to note the different starting points: some hiking trails begin in the village, while another starts at the dam.

Location and Orientation

Colibița is one of the gateways to Călimani National Park. The DJ172D connects Mureșenii Bârgăului on the DN17 with Bistrița Bârgăului via Lacul Colibița and Colibița. From Mureșenii Bârgăului, the access road to Colibița runs along local and forest roads. These connections help situate the village in the landscape; for planning an excursion, it is also important to know where each trail begins.

The Valea Repedea protected area in the Călimani Mountains is characterized by erosion formations, groups of larch trees, and protected plant and animal species. This brings a distinctive natural landscape of the region into focus alongside the lake and hiking trails.

At the Lake: Access Points and Activities

There are two signposted public access areas for pedestrians and cyclists at Lacul Colibița. They provide clear directions if you want to reach the lake on foot or by bike.

Ponton Colibița offers modern electric boats for rent, as well as guided and self-guided boat trips on the lake. If you are planning a stay around a particular water activity, you can check the relevant offer in advance; these activities depend on the season and local availability.

Hiking Trails with Different Starting Points

The municipality lists a hiking route from Colibița Sat via Gura Izvoarelor, Pârâul Colbu, and Culmea Plaiului to Gura Plaiului (Bistricior). A second route runs from Colibița Sat via Gura Izvoarelor, Izvorul Lung, Poiana Terha, Viişorul, Străcior, and Bistricior to Ţuţurgău. The named stops distinguish the routes; trail conditions on both may vary.

The Colibița–Tăul Zânelor hiking trail begins in the village of Colibița, at an altitude of 800 meters, and is considered the main way to reach Tăul Zânelor from the lake area. The Barajul Colibița–Tăul Zânelor trail starts at the dam: first, you cross the dam, then the route follows a forest road for the first 7.5 kilometers. Lacul Colibița remains on the left throughout, and the trail reaches an altitude of approximately 1,150 meters. These two descriptions offer different starting points for planning.

Other specific destinations include the rest area and viewpoint at the summit of the route via Piatra lui Orban, with views of Lacul Colibița and the Bârgăului Mountains. The Bistricioru trail passes through a spruce forest and offers views of the Bistricioru glacial cirque, the lake, and the 2,100-meter-high Vf. Pietrosul Călimani.
