Homorog can be explored through several clearly distinct themes: Orthodox church art, the history of an icon collection, and a marble monument. These cultural features are complemented by a section of the Corhana River used for recreational fishing. Historical and nature-related points of interest therefore sit side by side. This gives you a practical choice when planning your trip: culture, monument design, or leisure by the water. In the wider region, the Rădvani bird colony also adds a protected natural area.

Orthodox Church and Icon Collection

The Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God (“Nașterea Maicii Domnului”) dates from 1836–1837. It is known for its wall paintings by the artist Ioan Lopoșan and is considered an important historical monument. Almost all of the church’s old interior furnishings in Homorog have also been preserved in their original form, from the altar to the entrance to the high tower. The church is therefore a point of interest from both an art-historical and an architectural perspective.

The story of the Icon Museum begins with a collection: more than 200 objects were gathered between 1970 and 1973, after which the museum was established. The museum building was completed in the summer of 1973. It consists of three rooms and an open corridor. The collection opened to visitors in 1973. If you are planning a visit today, please check its current accessibility in advance.

A Marble Monument

The Heroes’ Monument marks a later period. It was erected in 1996 from white and black marble, with its artistic design created by sculptor Cornel Durgheu. Compared with the 19th-century church and the museum’s history in the 1970s, the monument shows that Homorog’s cultural themes span different periods. The dates put these features in chronological order: the church building and the museum’s history were followed by the marble monument in 1996. This offers a way to explore local cultural history across different eras.

Water and Regional Nature

The Corhana is a specific point of interest for recreational anglers. Between Homorog and the Hungarian border, the river has an 8 km stretch designated for recreational fishing. Unlike the church, museum and monument, the focus here is not cultural history but an activity on the water. Another water-related attraction is Homorog Recreational Lake, one of the tourist destinations in the Salonta area. If you plan to visit the lake, please check locally for specific facilities and current accessibility.

In the wider region around Homorog, but not in the village itself, the 3 ha Rădvani bird colony lies on the border with the commune of Mădăraș. It is a zoological nature reserve within Cefa Nature Park. There is a visitor and information centre at the colony. If you plan to visit, please check in advance whether the centre is open. Rădvani complements the local cultural themes with a distinct regional natural feature.
