The Church of “Sf. Gheorghe” in Tescani dates back to 1769. The town’s cultural offerings also include a former manor house, galleries and arts programmes. When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing architectural heritage from artistic formats: Tescani’s historic buildings stand alongside programmes spanning visual arts to choreography.
Building history and museum
The Church of “Sf. Gheorghe” is associated with two distinct dates: it dates back to 1769 and was restored in 1986. These dates mark its construction and restoration; the church is a historic landmark in its own right, alongside the former manor house of the Rosetti-Tescanu family.
The former manor house is home to the “Dumitru şi Alice Rosetti Tescanu – George Enescu” section. The house is designated a historic monument. Together with the church, it forms a cultural and historical focal point, comprising a religious building with a known date of construction and a former manor house protected as a historic monument.
The section is closed on Mondays and is open to visitors Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; last entry is at 4:30 p.m. Check the opening times again before your trip.
Galleries and artistic programmes
The Merăria building is part of the Rosetti-Tescanu ensemble and houses art galleries and studios. The “Ilie Boca” Gallery is on the ground floor. It traditionally hosts temporary exhibitions by artists invited to the studios in Tescani.
Visual arts workshops have a long history in Tescani, where they have been held since 1976. The artists’ residency programme is a separate initiative. Since 2008, it has been organised and financially supported by the National “George Enescu” Museum and takes the form of creative workshops in music, literature and visual arts.
“TERPSICHORE 2026 Choreographic Residency” was the event’s 15th edition. It was designed as an intensive choreography masterclass, encompassing study, training and artistic development under the guidance of established artists and educators. The formats have different focuses: visual arts at the arts workshops, several disciplines at the creative workshops and choreography at TERPSICHORE.
The years also refer to different milestones: 1976 marks the start of the arts workshops, 2008 the launch of the residency programme and 2026 the 15th edition of TERPSICHORE.
Park setting and cultural orientation
The Tescani museum grounds are situated in a dendrological park amid rolling hills. The setting is therefore one of the town’s defining features, alongside its buildings and arts programmes.
If you are planning your stay around your cultural interests, there are two distinct areas to explore: the church and former manor house offer a glimpse of building history, while the galleries, studios and artists’ residencies showcase different art forms. The museum section’s specific opening times can help you plan a visit to this historic site, while the dates provide a timeline for the artistic programmes.
