Saltwater springs, an active spa facility and archaeological sites give Sărata several concrete points of interest for a stay. Those looking for spa treatments and springs can include Baza Sărata in their plans; those interested in cultural history can also explore the sites in different locations and the documentary mention of the town. The road connections help put Sărata in context within the region.

Saltwater and spa treatments

The saltwater springs of Sărata are considered an important natural resource for recreation and health, and therapeutic indications are associated with them. A local spa facility is currently operating and is supplied by five mineral springs. The mineral waters contain sulfur, sulfates, bicarbonates, calcium, sodium and sodium chloride.

At Baza Sărata, therapeutic saltwater bathing is available in outdoor pools. The facility also has two swimming pools supplied with warm, saline mineral water. Warm water should be used only on a doctor's recommendation. Check visiting conditions and the seasonal availability of the pools before travelling.

Pools as an accommodation feature

Motel Levisticum lists an 8 × 18-metre swimming pool and 200 sun loungers; these facilities may change. I.F. Coşeraru Iorgu lists a saltwater pool for 60 people; this facility may also change. The figures are not directly comparable: for the motel, they refer to pool dimensions and sun loungers, while for I.F. Coşeraru Iorgu, they refer to capacity.

Getting there and finding your way around

For travelling by road, it helps to know the precise route. The DJ119 county road crosses Sărata commune and connects it to Bacău to the northeast. To the south, the route runs via Nicolae Bălcescu, Faraoani, Cleja, Răcăciuni, Gura Văii and Oneşti. In Sărata, DJ119B branches off to the north; it runs via Luizi-Călugăra, Măgura, Mărgineni and Hemeiuş and crosses DN11 in Măgura. The commune is also near the E85 European route between Bacău and Adjud. Check the current road layout before travelling, as infrastructure works may change it.

Local history and archaeological sites

Sărata is documented in 1776. The Sărata–Dealul Conțului archaeological site is in the Talpa area, northeast of Talpa and northwest of Sărata. It is classified as a civil settlement from the Eneolithic and Bronze Age; a site attributed to the Cucuteni culture, phases A and A-B, was also discovered at Dealul Conțului. Another archaeological site, the Carpic settlement of Sărata–Coasta Moşului, is on a high hill west of Sărata and southwest of Băi. The different location references help distinguish the sites when making your own plans.

Saltwater in everyday life

Saltwater also has a different role in everyday life than it does at the spa facility. Local people generally use spring water to preserve meat and lard and to pickle vegetables. This use gives the springs a connection to local food preservation and food culture, in addition to their therapeutic significance.
