In Sátão, you can weigh up different travel themes: the Rota do Barroco leads to religious buildings and a historic manor house, while the Rota do Míscaro focuses on a yellow mushroom found in the pine forests. Church architecture, an annual Míscaro market, visitor information and a trail-running centre round out the destination’s profile.

Baroque Route and Church Architecture

The Rota do Barroco is 19.29 km long, with a stated duration of five hours and 15 minutes. It begins in Sátão beside the Church of Santa Maria and the former Solar dos Albuquerques. In Sátão, it connects several religious buildings with the manor house, which dates from the 18th century and currently houses the Sátão Municipal Library. The stated distance and duration give you a concrete timeframe for planning. A chapel façade is also attached to the main façade of the manor house.

The Igreja Matriz de Sátão is another architectural landmark. The building dates from the 19th century and is influenced by eclectic religious architecture. Its longitudinal plan comprises a nave, chancel and sacristy within a single structure. The reference to the longitudinal plan complements the stylistic classification with information about the building’s layout: it identifies both the architectural influences and the arrangement of the building’s parts. Eclectic architecture combines design elements from different styles.

Míscaro and the Vouga

The Rota do Míscaro has a different focus: it highlights the yellow mushroom Tricholoma equestre, which grows in Sátão’s pine forests. It first heads north along the left bank of the River Vouga. The routes therefore differ in their stated focus: the Rota do Barroco centres on religious buildings and the manor house, while the Rota do Míscaro focuses on mushrooms and the riverside stretch that initially runs north.

The Vouga is also a point of reference for the Centro de Trail Running de Sátão: the centre is located by the river, with its base at Praia Fluvial do Trabulo. Thus, the northbound riverside stretch of the Rota do Míscaro and the trail-running centre on the Vouga represent two different connections to the river.

Feira do Míscaro and Visitor Information

The Feira do Míscaro takes place every year at Largo de São Bernardo. The programme includes cooking demonstrations, music and cultural activities; individual events may change. If you are travelling specifically for the fair, check the dates and programme for that year’s edition in advance.

Casa da Cultura de Sátão provides visitors with cultural, tourism, gastronomic and craft information about the municipality. As service arrangements may change, briefly check the latest information before your visit.
