Culture, local history and a hike give a visit to Lowicz Walecki a range of different focuses. Specific points of interest include the filial Church of the Holy Spirit, a granite boulder commemorating 1945, the one-day Święto Ziół in Siedem Ogrodów, and the green Jezioro Kosiakowo–Łowicz Wałecki hiking trail. When planning, it is particularly useful to distinguish between the festival’s fixed date and the trail’s several-hour walking time. This makes it easier to decide whether to focus on an event day or time spent on foot.

Church and Remembrance

The filial Church of the Holy Spirit has a single nave and a rectangular floor plan. A single-nave church has one nave; the rectangular floor plan describes the shape of the building. Visitors interested in architecture have two specific features to look for: the basic shape and the layout of the church interior.

At the foot of the church, a granite boulder commemorates the capture of the town following heavy fighting on the evening of 12 February 1945. The memorial stone connects local history to a specific date. The church and the boulder thus offer different points of cultural and historical interest: one focuses on the building’s design, the other on the memory of a specific event.

Święto Ziół: A Fixed Date

The one-day Święto Ziół in Siedem Ogrodów takes place every year on 15 August. If the festival is the main focus of your visit, plan around this date and check the programme for that year’s edition before travelling. The festival includes workshops and talks about herbs, combining practical activities with presentations.

The 2024 programme featured concerts, dance performances and appearances by the Zakochana w Teatrze Silver Art group, alongside the opening of the Ogród kobiecych Emocji and a market for regional products. There were also craft workshops, talks about herbs and cuisine, games and activities for children, and competitions with prizes. That year’s edition brought together stage performances, regional products and hands-on activities; individual programme items may vary from year to year.

Green Hiking Trail: Time and Trail Conditions

The green Jezioro Kosiakowo–Łowicz Wałecki hiking trail is considered fairly easy and can be walked in a few hours. This offers a different timeframe for planning than the festival: here, it is a matter of several hours on the trail, while the festival takes place on a specific calendar date. Following the reorganisation in 2018, maintenance and renewal of the trail were not continued. Therefore, check the current trail conditions before setting out; its fairly easy rating does not replace this check.

Each focus therefore answers a different planning question: the festival sets a date, the hiking trail an approximate walking time, and the church and boulder provide a cultural and historical focus. You can use these factors to decide which reason for visiting will shape your trip.
