Historic city gates, churches from different periods and routes through the town set the scene for a trip to Sławno. When planning your visit, you can decide whether to focus on architecture and the town’s history, a walking route or the cycling paths.

City Gates and Churches as Historical Landmarks

The freestanding Brama Koszalińska is first mentioned in 1453. It stands on Jedności-Narodowej Street near Basztowa Street, in the southern part of the historic town. The also freestanding Brama Słupska is first mentioned in 1458; it stands at the intersection of Basztowa and Skłodowskiej streets, north of the market square and near the bridge over the Moszczenica. The street names and the gates’ locations in relation to the market square offer clear reference points for finding your way around.

The largest building in Sławno is St. Mary’s Church. It was founded between 1326 and 1364 by Duchess Zofia, the wife of Barnim IV. The parish church of St. Anthony of Padua offers a contrast in period: it was built in the Neo-Gothic style in 1925–1928. Sławno is thus home to both a 14th-century ecclesiastical foundation and a 20th-century Neo-Gothic church.

Regional history is also part of the town’s cultural profile. At the initiative of Joanna and Zbigniew Kluszczyński, a museum room was established in the cultural centre. Its purpose is to promote regional history and commemorate 700 years of municipal rights for Sławno.

Routes Through Sławno: The Way of St. James and Cycling Routes

The Pomorska Droga św. Jakuba passes through Sławno. If you include this route in your plans, check the waymarking and conditions before setting out. Nearly three kilometres of cycling paths encircle Sławno. The route runs from Kościelna Street, past the municipal secondary school and stadium, along Kąpielowa Street to the Polish Military Organisation Park.

The two routes are distinguished above all by the information available about them: for the Way of St. James, the key point is its passage through Sławno; the cycling routes are also described by their length and by the streets and landmarks within the town. You can first decide which of these options you would like to shape your stay. Check the current route before cycling.

Cultural Events and Practical Information

Among the regional events in Sławno connected with the town’s cultural heritage is the International Festival of Brass Bands. It is held annually on set dates; dates and programmes may vary from year to year. In 2022, the festival took place for the 52nd time, and its history dates back to 10 June 1969. If the festival determines your travel dates, check the specific event dates before booking.

Sławno railway station was built in the 1860s in the western part of the town. The Sławno Regional Tourist Information Centre is located in the station building. It provides information about accommodation and dining, bringing together two practical aspects of planning your stay.
