Łącko combines a clearly recognisable village character with a history of half-timbered houses, a Gothic parish church and a recreation area on the shore of Lake Wicko. When looking for a holiday apartment, it is worth first deciding which of these aspects should shape your stay: architectural history in the village, a view of the lake or a bike ride on the R10. The following features show what Łącko has to offer in practical terms.

Half-timbered houses and village character

Around thirty half-timbered buildings dating from the mid-19th century onwards have been preserved in Łącko. This means that half-timbering is not limited to a single building: the surviving examples make this architectural style a distinct way of exploring the village’s history. The Trasa szachulca i legend (Half-Timbered Houses and Legends Route) was designed to highlight Łącko’s oval layout. The route thus offers a different perspective from the individual buildings, drawing attention to the shape of the village as a whole.

Church, lime trees and historical memory

The Gothic parish church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary adds an older architectural history to this picture: it was built in the 13th century and remodelled in 1607. Its medieval origins and subsequent remodelling show that Łącko’s architectural history is not limited to the half-timbered buildings erected from the mid-19th century onwards. A row of old lime trees surrounds the church grounds; ten of them are recognised as natural monuments. Church architecture and protected trees thus stand side by side as two distinct aspects of the village’s character. An impressive memorial plaque has been preserved at the place where the young Prince Bogusław X is said to have lived.

Regional setting

Łącko is located in the Kraina w Kratę (Checkered Land) and is considered a valuable historical, architectural and natural ensemble, as well as an outstanding example of the region. In 2019, the village received a certificate for participating in the network of Poland’s most interesting villages. This regional context offers an additional point of reference for travellers who want to look beyond individual buildings and consider the wider picture.

Lake Wicko: beach and cycling views

A self-service bicycle repair station is installed at the beach on Lake Wicko in Łącko. There is a designated fire pit in the beach recreation area. A wooden rest pavilion and park hammocks have also been installed, and the footpaths have been surfaced with natural gravel. These facilities offer a different focus from the half-timbered houses and church buildings. If you are planning to use a particular facility, check in advance whether it is currently available.

On the R10 cycling route towards Łącko, a view of Lake Wicko opens up to the left of the route. On arriving in Łącko, you can turn left and take in the lake from another perspective. The first view is part of the ride on the R10; the second comes as you arrive in Łącko.
