Local and Church History
Bonin was first mentioned in a document in 1406. St. Joseph’s Church was consecrated to Saint Joseph in 1946. The church in Bonin was built by Luis von Borcke in 1845. Its tower has a Baroque cupola from the 18th century; its features include a Mannerist altar from the 17th century and a Baroque pulpit from the 18th century.
The stylistic details can be distinguished: the altar is Mannerist, while the tower cupola and pulpit are Baroque. There are also different points of reference in time: the village’s first documentary mention, the construction of the church in 1845, and the consecration of St. Joseph’s Church in 1946.
