Four lakes, an oval water tower and an annual fair offer different reasons to visit Kalisz Pomorski. The town can be explored through its lakeside setting as well as its architectural history and local traditions. When choosing what to focus on, visitors can decide whether lakes, historic buildings, public art or an event date should take centre stage.

Lakeside setting and local history

Kalisz Pomorski lies between four lakes that, around two centuries ago, formed a single large lake. Today’s landscape can therefore be viewed both geographically and historically: the lakes shape the town’s setting, while their former unity reveals how the lake area has changed. A canal connects Bobrowo Wielkie and Bobrowo Małe; the two lakes were once a single lake. Kalisz Pomorski’s municipal bathing beach is on Bobrowo Wielkie. Its waters are fed exclusively by underground springs. The town’s connection to water thus ranges from its position among the lakes to the link between the named pair and the source of their spring water.

Buildings from different periods

Kalisz Pomorski’s water tower stands by the railway station. It was built towards the end of the 19th century, probably around 1888. The oval tower belongs to the “Grzybek” type: its tank projects far outwards, topped by a conical roof with a raised lantern. This description distinguishes the water tower as a structure in its own right. The Neoclassical Church of Matki Bożej Królowej Polski offers a different architectural and historical reference point. It was built from 1772 to 1781, following a major fire and the demolition of the medieval church. The comparison therefore brings together the late-18th-century Neoclassical church and the water tower from the end of the 19th century. Their distinct dates and forms offer two concrete ways to explore the town’s architectural history.

Art and notable landmarks

The “Beczuś” motif appears in Kalisz Pomorski in two different forms. The “Ogórek Beczuś” sculpture stands by the town hall, while a mural dedicated to Beczuś was created on an almost 100-metre-long wall by the beach. Taken together, they show two distinct forms—a sculpture and a large-scale wall painting—both connected to Beczuś. Another notable landmark is the restored Kamień szlifierski. It was returned to its former location in the small wood by Lake Młyńskie and lies along the Leśna Ścieżka Edukacyjna. The restoration and return to its former location are part of this site’s history. The motifs therefore differ: the Beczuś works foreground their dedication and form, while the Kamień szlifierski is distinguished by its restoration and local history.

Jarmark OgĂłrkowy

The Jarmark Ogórkowy adds an annual event to the calendar. The festival has been a local tradition since 2005; its programme includes cooking demonstrations and craft workshops. Culinary demonstrations and hands-on craft workshops come together here, offering a different focus from the lakes and buildings that shape the town year-round. If you would like to plan your trip around the Jarmark, check the date of that year’s edition.
