The red sandstone obelisk in Strawczyn commemorates the birthplace of Stefan Żeromski. Its inscription states that the house where the writer was born on 1 November 1864 stood on this site. This concrete location thus connects Żeromski’s story with Strawczyn.

Żeromski and the history of the town

The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is also part of the town’s history. Its construction was funded by Krzysztof Gawroński, began in 1629 and was completed in 1685. The long construction period gives the church its own historical context, distinct from the remembrance of Żeromski. Those exploring Strawczyn’s cultural heritage will therefore find two different points of interest: the memorial at the obelisk and the church’s construction history.

Relaxation at the Zalew w Strawczynie

The Zalew w Strawczynie, covering just under ten hectares, was created by damming the Olszówka watercourse, also known as Trupień. The lake is described as a place for relaxation and recreation. Facilities listed include a pier, covered gazebos with benches and tables, barbecue and campfire areas, fishing spots and a large car park. There is also a designated bathing area, rest gazebos and a children’s playground by the lake.

The facilities cater to different interests: visitors can choose between swimming, fishing, shelter under cover and play areas by the water. In summer, visitors can use a sandy beach and a volleyball court; cycling routes by the Zalew are also planned for the summer season. Before visiting, check the current seasonal conditions if the beach, volleyball court or cycling routes are important to your plans.

Cycling and nature in the surrounding area

The yellow circular cycling route around the municipality of Strawczyn is over 30 kilometres long. Its southeastern section passes through Strawczyn, Promnik, Chełmce, Oblęgorek, Oblęgór and Niedźwiedź. This section follows paved roads with very little traffic. The length of more than 30 kilometres refers to the entire circular route, so it is important to distinguish between the full loop and the southeastern section when planning your day. The route description dates from 2017. Check current markings and route conditions before setting off.

Nearby, the wooded summit of Perzowa Góra has been protected as a nature reserve since 1995. The protected area covers 33 hectares. It offers another nature-related destination to consider when planning a trip, but should not be confused with the cycling route section through Strawczyn.
