Górno was mentioned as early as 1400 as property of the Bishops of Kraków. The history of the place also includes the parish, which has existed since 1935. The municipality has other attractions, each rooted in its own location: a reservoir in Cedzyna, a ski slope and a park in Krajno, and a historic church in Leszczyny. This distinction is useful when planning a trip: Górno itself and the other places in the municipality offer different highlights.

Church history in Górno and Leszczyny

The history of the parish in Górno can be summed up in two facts: the parish has existed since 1935, and its first parish church was built that same year. This places the parish’s development in a specific year. The mention of Górno in 1400 and the establishment of the parish, however, belong to different historical periods.

Another point of reference in church history is in Leszczyny. The church dedicated to Saint Jacek Odrowąż is considered the oldest church in the municipality and was founded in 1610. It contains a marble plaque with an epitaph for Wincenty and Józefa Żeromski, the parents of the writer Stefan Żeromski. Both are buried in the nearby parish cemetery. In Leszczyny, the history of the building and a specific family memorial stand side by side.

The information about the churches offers different perspectives: in Górno, the focus is on the history of the parish; in Leszczyny, on an older church in the municipality and the memory of Stefan Żeromski’s parents. If you are interested in regional cultural history, you can distinguish between these points of reference when choosing places to visit, rather than attributing them all to a single local history.

Memorial site and history of remembrance

The monument to 23 Poles is also in Górno. It commemorates the people who were shot by the Nazis on 5 August 1944. The exact number of victims and the date place the memorial in the context of a specific historical event. Thus, alongside the older history of the place and the parish, the memory of Nazi violence is also part of Górno’s history.

Reservoir, ski slope and views in the municipality

The reservoir in Cedzyna covers 65 hectares. Swimming, sailing and fishing are available there. These activities offer different ways to enjoy the water and provide an alternative to the historical attractions in Górno and Leszczyny. If one of the water activities is important to your plans, check the conditions for your visit date in advance.

Krajno has a ski slope with a one-kilometre descent. Its specific length clearly distinguishes this attraction from the water activities in Cedzyna. If you plan to visit the ski slope, check in advance whether it will be operating on your chosen date.

Another attraction in Krajno is Sabat Krajno, a leisure and miniature park. It is located on a hill. From there, you can look out over the park, parts of Świętokrzyski National Park and Łysica. So, alongside the reservoir activities and the ski descent, the municipality also offers a destination with a view. Cedzyna, Krajno and Leszczyny are three different places with distinct attractions, not a single location.

Choose the focus of your stay

The place names provide a concrete guide to locations within the municipality. Then compare accommodation based on the location of the attraction you plan to visit, rather than treating Górno and all the other places in the municipality as one and the same location.

You can also choose activities based on your interests. If history is your focus, consider the parish history, the church in Leszczyny with its epitaph, and the monument in Górno. If you want to compare leisure activities, consider the options at the reservoir, the descent in Krajno and the park’s hilltop setting.
