Common ivy and fir trees grow in the Lupa Nature Reserve, which is also home to legally protected ancient oaks. Powiat Przeworski stretches across the Carpathian Foothills and the Sandomierz Basin. The Sieniawa Forest District contains a landscape protection area and the Lupa Nature Reserve. Near Sietesz, the HusĂłwka Nature Reserve is home to a stand of larches and populations of the southern golden moth. These specific plant features offer a way to explore the natural environment of the powiat: Lupa with its ivy, firs and ancient oaks, and HusĂłwka with its larches and southern golden moths.

Hiking and cycling trails in the powiat

There are several hiking and cycling trails in Powiat Przeworski. The hiking trail from Przeworsk to Zarzecze is 18 kilometres long and passes through Maćkówka and Zalesie. The blue Dynów–Biała trail near Rzeszów is considerably longer: it runs through the municipality of Jawornik Polski, covers 38 kilometres and takes about twelve hours to walk. This offers two very different scales of route: a shorter connection between two places and a substantially longer hike. The stated walking time for the longer route should be treated as an estimate.

Specific distances are also given for cycling routes: the Kańczuga–Lipnik–Manasterz cycling route is 22 kilometres long, while the Hucisko Jawornickie–Jawornik Polski–Hadle Szklarskie cycling route is 20 kilometres long. The routes are therefore similar in length; the places named in their titles help distinguish them.

Churches, museums and historic sites

The wooden All Saints’ Church in Siennów was built in 1676. Baroque altars and two well-preserved frescoes in the sacristy add specific details about its interior to the building’s date. The church in Nowosielce played a different historical role: in the 17th century, it served as a fortification and successfully repelled Tatar attacks. The Greek Catholic Church of St Michael in Krzeczowice was built in 1770 or 1793.

In Przeworsk, local and regional history sit alongside archaeology. The museum exhibition explores the history, traditions and material culture of the town and its surroundings. Its archaeological collection includes finds from the Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age and Early Middle Ages. The Gothic Bernardine church and monastery also date from the 15th century; a section of the defensive wall has survived. The Basilica of the Holy Spirit was built between 1430 and 1473. The Sanctuary of the Holy Sepulchre contains a replica of Christ’s tomb in Jerusalem, dating from 1712.

The Lubomirski family’s palace and park complex in Przeworsk includes a manor house built between 1799 and 1807, now used as a museum. The Dzieduszycki Palace in Zarzecze was built between 1817 and 1819. Its Romantic Park is home to mighty oak trees, the oldest of which are about 500 years old. The palace and trees offer a striking contrast in age: the palace dates from the early 19th century, while the oldest oaks are around five centuries old.

Routes and getting there

The PogĂłrzanin narrow-gauge railway runs for 46 kilometres from Przeworsk through Jawornik Polski to DynĂłw. Near Szklary, the route passes through a 602-metre-long railway tunnel. By road, the powiat can be reached via the international E40 route, also known as National Road 4, and via the A4 motorway, which has two junctions in the powiat.
