Uherce Mineralne offers different starting points for planning a trip: at the Bieszczadzka Szkoła Rzemiosła, participants can try their hand at crafts; the Bóbr w Uhercach fauna reserve serves as a refuge for the endangered European beaver; and the waterfall on the Olszanka lies close to the town. Culture, nature conservation and a distinctive natural feature thus provide different focal points for a stay.

Try your hand at crafts

The Bieszczadzka Szkoła Rzemiosła in Uherce Mineralne is an interactive museum offering workshops in traditional crafts that are disappearing. In the pottery workshop, participants make a clay pot under the guidance of qualified instructors. The museum thus combines learning about traditional crafts with hands-on activity: you work towards a tangible result yourself.

Another hands-on activity is baking traditional proziaki, or soda bread rolls. Here, too, participants work under the guidance of qualified instructors. Compared with pottery, both the material and the activity are different: this is about making a traditional baked good rather than a clay pot. You can also try calligraphy at the school, adding lettering as an option alongside making and baking.

This distinction is useful when choosing: pottery, baking and calligraphy offer different ways to engage with the activities. If you would like to include a particular activity in your plans, check the relevant date in advance.

Nature: a refuge and a waterfall

The BĂłbr w Uhercach fauna reserve in Uherce Mineralne covers 27.12 hectares and serves as a refuge for the endangered European beaver. Its area and purpose give the nature conservation theme a concrete focus: the refuge of an endangered species is at its heart.

The natural waterfall on the Olszanka is also close to Uherce Mineralne. At 38 metres wide, it stretches from one bank to the other. Unlike the reserve, whose purpose is protection, the waterfall’s expanse stands out as a landscape feature. The measurements also describe different things: the reserve’s area is given in hectares, while the waterfall’s width is given in metres. The figures therefore cannot be read as a direct comparison of size; each describes a different aspect of the two natural sites.

The nature attractions thus offer different perspectives: the reserve focuses on its role as a refuge and on the beaver, while the waterfall stands out for its natural form and width. If nature conservation or waterfalls particularly interest you, this distinction can help you decide what will shape your travel plans.

Plan your stay around your interests

The school offers guided, hands-on activities; in the natural surroundings, you can choose between the protected area and the waterfall as different focal points.
