Berezka brings together church architecture, park history, and trails for hiking and cycling. From the 19th-century parish church, the view reaches back to a probably much older wooden church at the same site; the historic park contains designated natural monuments. Hiking routes connect destinations with colour-coded markings and approximate walking times, while a cycling loop passes through several localities. The hiking options differ primarily in their destination, trail marking and time required.
Church Architecture and Local History
The parish Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Berezka was built in 1868. Its main structure is unusually large in proportion to the other parts of the building. A previous wooden church was probably built on the site of today’s church as early as the 15th century. The two dates refer to different historical periods: the wooden church represents a probable early building history at the site, while 1868 is the year the present church was built.
Another religious building is the cemetery chapel in Berezka. It dates from 1870, was extended in the second half of the 20th century, and is now used as the Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The years 1868 and 1870 therefore refer to two differently designated church buildings.
Historic Park and Natural Monuments
A historic park with earthworks is now used as a recreational park. The historic park contains three oaks designated as natural monuments, with circumferences ranging from 420 to 470 centimetres, as well as a similarly designated pine with a circumference of 370 centimetres. The oaks are recorded as a range of circumferences, while the pine is recorded with a single measurement. The figures in centimetres refer to the circumference of the trunks, not their diameter.
Remains of a manor park dating from 1851, associated with the Fredro and Żurowski families, have also been preserved in Berezka.
Hiking and Cycling from Berezka
Marked hiking trails from Berezka lead to Wisina (blue; about 2.5 hours), Kiczera (green; about three hours), Pasieki (yellow; about one hour) and Kamieniec (red; about three hours). The trail to Pasieki has the shortest stated walking time; the trail to Wisina falls in between, while Kiczera and Kamieniec each take about three hours. The yellow trail to Pasieki joins the red hiking trail. Walking times are approximate; check current trail conditions before setting out.
A cycling loop runs from Polańczyk through Wołkowyja, Górzanka, Bereżnica Wyżna, Wola Matiaszowa, Berezka and Myczków, and back to Polańczyk. Berezka is therefore part of a route that connects several localities. The hiking trails differ in destination and approximate time required; the cycling loop follows a continuous route through the localities listed above.
