Łańcut combines the history of Łańcut Castle with a 31-hectare park and several distinct collections. When planning a stay, you can choose between castle and collection themes, park design, and a regional focus on ceramics or nature. If you are looking for a hotel in Łańcut, it is worth first considering whether your focus is on the town’s attractions or whether you also want to include destinations elsewhere in Łańcut County.
Castle history and distinct collections
Łańcut Castle was built on the commission of Stanisław Lubomirski between 1629 and 1642. The Baroque synagogue in Łańcut has an authentic bimah and offers a different perspective on local cultural history.
The carriage collection comprises 55 exhibits and traces its origins to the Potocki family. The collection of sacred Orthodox art is housed in the east wing of the coach stables and is considered the largest of its kind in Poland. In Łańcut, you can therefore encounter distinct collection themes: the carriage collection, with its connection to the Potocki family, and sacred Orthodox art.
Parkland and orchids
Łańcut Park covers 31 hectares. Its inner section is landscaped with numerous shrubs, trees and sculptures; the outer section is an expansive landscape park. Notable trees include the Japanese pagoda tree, American tulip tree and Soulange’s magnolia. A small pond and an avenue of red-leaved beeches complete the design. The grounds thus combine landscaped details in the inner section with the open expanse of a landscape park.
Łańcut’s orchid house is home to more than 1,260 orchid species; this number may change. A collection of this scale is said to be unique in Poland and one of only a few worldwide. This specialised orchid collection is therefore thematically distinct from the expansive parkland.
Rosolis as part of the town’s history
Rosolis is also part of Łańcut’s history: this high-proof liqueur has flavours of rose, herbal bitters and coffee. Production in Łańcut began towards the end of the 18th century and continues to this day. Rosolis adds a local product and production story to the themes of the castle, art and park.
Nature and ceramics destinations elsewhere in the county
Regional trails offer further options in Łańcut County. The “Koralowa” ecological educational trail runs through the southern part of Łańcut County, in Cierpisz. The approximately 30 km southern cycling route passes through Handzlówka, Albigowa-Honie, Cierpisz, Kraczkowa and Albigowa. The two routes have different focuses: “Koralowa” is an ecological educational trail, while the southern route is described as being for cyclists.
Ceramics also have a long history in the region. In the north of the Czarna municipality, in Zalesie, Medynia Głogowska, Medynia Łańcucka and Pogwizdów, what was once Poland’s largest pottery centre developed. The tourist pottery trail passes through Medynia Głogowska, Medynia Łańcucka, Pogwizdów and Zalesie.
At the Pottery Homestead in Medynia Głogowska, courses in making clay musical instruments and ceramic jewellery are held with the participation of Polish and foreign ceramicists. Check current availability with the operator. Regional ceramics themes thus centre on local history, a tourist trail and craft courses.
