Krempna brings together nature trails, themes of Magura National Park, and architectural and cultural history. Two trails differ in their route characteristics and viewpoints; the museum, war cemetery and church each offer their own highlights through collections, architecture and preserved furnishings. Lemko farmsteads are among the sights, while the reservoir provides a place to relax amid nature. When planning your visit, you can consider nature trails, a natural history collection, historic architectural styles and relaxation as distinct areas of interest.
Nature trails: route or viewpoints?
The yellow-marked Hałbów–Kamień nature trail is 10 kilometres long and starts and ends in Krempna. Check current trail conditions before setting out. The “Dobry widok – Krempna” landscape trail passes five viewpoints. This gives you a clear difference when choosing a route: if a specified distance matters to you, Hałbów–Kamień provides one; if you use viewpoints as your guide, “Dobry widok” is defined by its five viewpoints. The length, marking and endpoints characterise the first trail, while the viewpoints are the named focus of the other.
Magura National Park and Museum
Krempna is the seat of Magura National Park. The park pavilion houses the park administration, the Jan Szafrański Educational Centre and the Magura National Park Museum. The museum’s extensive collection includes plant and animal specimens as well as geological exhibits. It thus combines biological natural history with geological themes. Here, nature is represented in two ways: outdoors on the trails, and in the museum through its collection. This contrast can help you decide whether you would rather focus on a route or on the themes explored in a collection.
Architecture and religious heritage
War Cemetery No. 6 lies on the summit of Łokieć Hill, southwest of Krempna. Its central feature is a mausoleum designed by Dušan Jurkovič, with a circular ground plan, six stone pillars and a concrete wreath decorated with oak leaves made of sheet copper. The circular ground plan describes the layout, while the pillars, concrete wreath and copper leaf ornament make the design tangible. The named architect brings together form, material and authorship as specific architectural features.
The church in Krempna is now used as a Roman Catholic church. Inside, a complete iconostasis from 1835 and a Deesis from an older, 17th-century iconostasis have been preserved. An iconostasis is a screen decorated with icons; the two furnishings point to different historical periods. Unlike the mausoleum’s exterior design, the church draws attention to preserved details in its interior. Together, they offer two different ways to explore architectural and cultural history.
More things to explore during your stay
Lemko farmsteads are also among the sights in Krempna. The reservoir in Krempna is a place to relax amid nature. It offers a different focus from the trails: while the trails emphasise distance or viewpoints, the reservoir is about relaxing in nature.
