At the Market Square: Museum and History

The historic town hall stands prominently in the centre of Brzozów’s modernised Market Square. Dating from the late 19th century, it houses the Muzeum Regionalne im. Adama Fastnachta. Its collections cover archaeology, ethnography, regional history and regional art; the museum also presents permanent exhibitions and specially organised exhibitions. The subjects offer different perspectives: archaeology focuses on material traces, while ethnography looks at ways of life; regional history and art add historical developments and artistic expression to these perspectives. The town hall also houses a tourist information office. If you plan to use it to help you find your way around, check its current services in advance.

An earlier period of construction is represented by the former building of the Missionary Fathers’ College. Dating from 1746 to 1760, it now houses the Catholic Cultural Centre. Compared with the town hall, which dates from the late 19th century, the former college represents an earlier building period. In Brzozów, you can therefore encounter two distinct periods of construction and contemporary cultural uses in historic buildings.

Religious Tradition, Classes and Cinema

Religious devotion is also part of Brzozów’s cultural heritage: a chapel in Brzozów houses the venerated image of Our Lady of Fire. It is considered to be a source of grace and the only Marian image in Poland with this title. Alongside the history of buildings and collections, this adds a distinct strand of religious tradition.

The Brzozowski Dom Kultury offers music, dance and art classes led by experienced instructors. At Kino Sokół, the “Studyjna Środa” series adds award-winning festival and Oscar films to the programme. The offerings differ in their approach: the classes introduce creative activities, while the film series brings together a special selection of films. If you have a particular class or screening in mind, check the current schedule in advance.

The sports and recreation complex includes swimming pools open seasonally, a beach volleyball court and a playground. If you are planning a visit to the swimming pool, take the season into account. Alongside cultural discoveries, there are other leisure activities to choose from, and the complex offers more than just its pools.

Forest Nature Trail and Regional Perspectives

Near Brzozów, the Brzozów-Zdrój nature and education trail is located in the Podlesie Forest District, close to the site of the former Brzozów-Zdrój health resort. The forest loop is about three kilometres long and is intended for a short walk. The trail includes an educational shelter with information boards, exhibits and mobile exhibition panels. The difference from a museum also lies in how you explore: here, learning is combined with a walk through the forest.

Further afield in the region around Brzozów are the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Blizne and Haczów, including their historic wooden churches. The difference in scale can help you choose a theme: Brzozów brings together urban cultural venues and activities, while Blizne and Haczów broaden the focus to historic wooden churches elsewhere in the region.
