In Procisne, nature trails and a direct introduction to local history are at the heart of planning a trip. The “Procisne-Dwernik” trail leads from Procisne to Dwernik via a hillside path. The “Stare Procisne” trail focuses on the village’s history. This allows you to give different weight to these themes during your stay: landscape and nature on the one hand, and the history of the place on the other.

The Trail from Procisne to Dwernik

The educational nature trail “Procisne-Dwernik” is about 4.4 kilometres long and has twelve stops. It was created to showcase the surrounding natural environment and the San River gorge. The trail offers views of the surrounding villages and the Otryt Mountains. Its length, number of stops and views give you specific points to consider if you would like to include this trail in your plans.

Wildlife Observation and Nature Reserve

Various plant and animal species can be observed along the trail. These include the Carpathian snowflake flower, known as “śnieżyca karpacka”. Such observations are possibilities along the trail, not guaranteed sightings. The “Śnieżyca wiosenna w Dwerniczku” floristic reserve is also located near Procisne. It was established to protect this plant species. The trail and the reserve therefore have different focuses: the trail passes through the surrounding natural environment, while the nearby protected area is dedicated to protecting the species mentioned above.

An Insight into Procisne’s History

The “Stare Procisne” trail offers a distinct way to explore the village’s history. It starts at the “Hłynny” forest car park, where the Wołosaty joins the San, and tells the history of Procisne. The stay of ethnographer Oskar Kolberg is another specific historical connection: he spent about a month in Procisne in 1884 and documented the local population’s customs, clothing, diet, building methods, farming, livestock raising and beliefs. His subjects thus ranged from everyday ways of life to agriculture and religion. If you are interested in local history, you will find a clearly defined point of reference here in terms of both period and subject matter.

Getting to the Trail and Choosing a Base for Your Trip

To reach the “Procisne-Dwernik” trail, take a PKS bus to Procisne, then walk along the educational nature trail “Stare Procisne” to the start of the route. In the opposite direction, you can take a bus to Dwernik. Check the timetable for your travel date. When looking for a holiday apartment for a stay in Procisne, the trails’ different focuses can help guide your choice: consider whether you would like to include mainly landscapes and nature observations, or the village’s history, in your travel plans.
